The Montana Grizzlies have had a fun year, and part of it probably has to do with embracing their role as underdogs.

They no doubt used that privately as motivation last week, when they went to top-ranked James Madison and pulled out a 35-27 win in the Football Championship Subdivision semifinals in Harrisonburg, Va.

“What a great win for our team and our program,” sixth-year Griz coach Bobby Hauck said Monday, as his team prepared for Friday's FCS championship game in Chattanooga, Tenn., against Richmond (6 p.m. Mountain time on ESPN2). “In 110 years of football, I don't believe Montana has ever beaten the No. 1 team in the nation, on their home field.”
