Lets hear about the hogs up front, cause we all know you can't get into the semi's without having a stacked O and D line. So list your staters JMU, Richmond, and UNI. This is what the Griz have up front, and what I think is one of the reason we've had such a suprising season.

O-line

RT-Brent Russum 66/SR/6'4"/295/3 year starter-Lewiston, ID (Transfer from Arizona State University)

RG-Terran Hillesland 77/JR/6'7"/323/1st year starter-Sidney, MT

C-J.D. Quinn 69/SR/6'4"/302/1st year starter-Garland, TX (Transfer from the University of Oklahoma)

LG-Collin Dow 79/SR/6'5"/300/3 year starter-BIllings, MT

LT-Levi Horn 72/JR/6'7"/305/1st year starter-Spokane, WA (Transfer from the University of Oregon)

All of the 1st year starter saw plenty of starting time last year, just not the whole season. J.D. Quinn and Collin Dow are amoung the best run blockers I've ever seenin the FCS. Both have a chance to play in the NFL next year. These guys are also slim fit linemen that are fast and excellent pulling blockers. They're also the reason for why Chase Reynolds has had 1413 total yards and 19 TD's this season.

D-line

DT-Jesse Carlson 97/SR /DT /6'3"/272/2nd year starter-Billings, MT

Jace Palmer might be small, but he's the speed demon off the edge and also leads the team in tackels for a lost. His twin is Tyler Palmer and has been playing at WR all season, so he's fast and can hold he's own on rushing plays to his side.

DT- Everette Pedescleaux 6-6 305 Solid Contributor for 4 years, should get looks from NFL, was also member of UNI basketball team
NT- Chuck Kinney- 6-4 275 3rd year starter very active DT
LE- Jeremy Robertson 6-4 255 1st year starter runs a 4.6 forty, speed rusher

DE- Justin Kirk- Sr. 6-4 255 converted LB, very smart player and is always in position
DT- Mark Huygens 6-6 277 Sr. Started at beginning of season but has been battling injuries, still is a force in the middle and a leader of the defense
DT- Nate Lane 6-3 290 Seen consistent action for 3 year, very good run stopper and is able to get after quarterback

The further west you go the bigger the players must get. Those are some monsters on both sides of the line. Especially Montana's oline and UNI's dline. A 6'6 305 DT in FCS? That's pretty crazy. The Griz dline isn't nearly as big as i would have thought though. Pretty standard issue for FSC atleast size wise.

The Griz seem to have the same problems recruiting DTs as anyone else at the FCS level. Basically, anyone who is 6'3", 300+lbs and quick is an instant FBS recruit.

These 3 guys are very significant parts of our line. Dyk has started some games this year instead of Horn and plays as much the game almost as much as any of the starters do, so I feel that he needs to be mentioned. Phaler and Beaudin are a big part of the run blocking and sometimes pass blocking games so they need mentioning. Phaler has been getting attention from NFL scouts. Our DL does some serious rotating as well. Mullins, Hobbs, LaMantia, Mercer, Featherston will all see lots of PT.

Dudes a beast, it doesn't suprise me at all that he's a transfer from Minnesota.

He originally verbally committed to UNI on a basketball scholarship.

Rescinded when Minnesota offered him for football. Redshirted his Freshman year, then decided he wanted to try and do both.

Transferred to UNI, was able to play football right away and was a reserve on the 2005 2nd place team but had to sit out a year of basketball for the transfer. Played his sophomore year on the basketball team as a reserve power forward and then gave up basketball as his football stock started to rise and he put on a little more muscle to play DT.

He's 305 lbs, but there is absolutely no belly on the guy. He is an absolute physical specimen and his stock (which was good coming in) has been rising all year. He has the speed of an OLB/DE and now the size of a DT. And yes, he has been lining up in short yardage situations as a TE/FB.

In other game early in the year, he was held and got the call, then proceeded to get in his stance-ten yards back from the previous spot, prior to the ref announcng the penalty and while the other teams' offense was huddling right next to him.

The Griz have had a history of quicker defensive lineman rather than bigger ones, like Dustin Dlouhy a few years back and Kroy Biermann last year. Both were small and incredibly fast, they could have played LB if they wanted too. But you don't always need size. Biermann made it to the NFL despite being small.
