Comedy of errors early. Richmond misplays a punt. EKU throws a pick.

0-0 so far.

They must be following the lead from the App State/SCSU game.

Plenty of turnovers by both teams.

EKUSteve
November 29th, 2008, 12:40 PM
Neither offense is doing anything.

EKUSteve

Neither team is really capitalizing on any opportunities thus far. Half-time adjustments will probably be the key to the outcome of this game. Is that a strength of UR? I'm not sure it is a strength of EKU.

It was until last week, I think we are even in that catagory. It appears that this game may go down to the wire.

So far EKU isn't looking bad for a weak OVC team.

FG Richmond. 10 - 10 at half.

Much game left to play, but EKU is representing well.

Take it to 'em, Colonels.

EKU shooting itself in the foot with all the short kickoffs.

EKUSteve
November 29th, 2008, 01:58 PM
Short drive to begin the second half for Richmond. 17 - 10 Spiders.

EKUSteve
November 29th, 2008, 01:59 PM
Seems like we are trying to keep it away from the return men, but are getting burned by the up backs.

redspider
November 29th, 2008, 01:59 PM
That was a great job by the spiders and showed a willingness to go for it on fourth down and not settle for a field goal. That lead to the score and now we have finally regained momentum.

Short kicks are making it easy for the Spiders.

Maroons
November 29th, 2008, 02:03 PM
If Richmond can make it a two-score game, I don't think the Colonels will be able to come back. It's important for EKU to make something happen on this drive.

EKUSteve

We are falling apart. Blitz caused fumble. Richmond ball at mid field.

Maroons
November 29th, 2008, 02:21 PM
I said second half adjustments would be key... but I feel like all Richmond has had to do is come out and line up because of poor EKU kicks and turnovers. Some of the credit is surely due to the Spiders... but man... this offense is sputtering.

EKUSteve
November 29th, 2008, 02:24 PM
24 - 10 end of three.

redspider
November 29th, 2008, 02:26 PM
That was the first blitz all day and caught the QB off guard leading to a touchdown great job by the Spiders.

EKUSteve
November 29th, 2008, 02:28 PM
Great catch for a Richmond TD. Three short drives this half that is killing us. 31 - 10 Spiders.

EKUSteve
November 29th, 2008, 02:29 PM
It looked like Holland was changing the play on the blitz, but didn't get rid of the ball. Good defensive call.

EKUSteve
November 29th, 2008, 02:33 PM
Went for it on our side on 4th down and did not make it. Another short field.

Wow great catch by Gray! I am willing to call this one over and say to the App state fans we are ready to see you again. I know it will be a daunting task but wow revenge will be sweet.

EKUSteve
November 29th, 2008, 02:34 PM
Made an adjustment by running wide this half instead of straight at us.

Seems like I feel the same way I did last year. It just appears that Richmond is more physical and better conditioned than EKU. And that shows over time. Good game by EKU, I was definitely concerned at halftime and before.

On to Boone and I hope Crone is healthy.

I'm not sure I agree. I would have identified starting field position and QB play as the difference in the game.

If it wasn't over before, it is now. 38 - 10. Total collapse in the second half. Give Richmond credit for playing well in the second half.

We gave them field position with a short kickoff the second half and they scored. We followed that by throwing a pick and fumbling on two consecutive drives. Last drive went for it on fourth down at our own 38 and did not make it. Richmond, four possessions, four TDs.

Perhaps. But those can be caused by conditioning.

I agree Maroons, I'm not sure what he was talking about. Early in the second half as the Richmond radio announcer put it..."EKU (was) dominating in the trenches." It was the turnovers and the idiotic pooch kick. The Richmond offense is going to look like it had a tremendous second half, but when your longest drive starts within breathing distance of your oppenents territory it isn't nearly as hard to look good.

EKU turnovers defined this game.

Our sister city from Kentucky made it a game in the first half. They played hard and come out swinging. Game not over but feel safe at this point. Congratulations EKU on a great season and being a conference champs. Will see you all again next year I am sure of it. Hopefully it will be in the later rounds. Would not want to meet you all again in the first round.

Yes, I watched the entire thing. Regardless of field position, in the first half Ward could not get much time to pass and Vaughn got stuffed when they ran the ball. In the 2nd half, not so much.

I agree those factors contributed to it being a blowout but I still thought Richmond looked far fresher than EKU.

Good game anyway.

Just got home from the game. I thought that EKU was much improved over last year. The first half was good defenses playing in good position and challenging the offenses to do something different. In the second half you could see the adjustments UR made start to pay off. UR's defense played loose & quick and really put the EKU QB in tough positions which led to the turnovers. UR finally opened up the offense and took advantge of the 8 man box.

Unfortunately there were a lot of injuries today. It all started with the referee blowing out his knee early. One of the real scary hits in the 2nd quarter left UR's Horton unconcious (spelling) and with a potential neck injury. Took him immediately to the hospital I believe. A number of other injuries leaves a very thin UR team (couldn't even pull guys to play backups without losing redshirts).

This was almost a carbon copy of our first-round game in 2005 against Hampton. Both were 10-10 at half, we looked ripe for upsets both times, then came out and just dominated in the second half and won 38-10 both times.

I am glad we finally opened up the offense a little in the second half. Where has that been the past month or so?

EKU played us a lot tougher in the first half than they did last year, and we ran some stupid predictable plays. The bottom line is that we have a defense that was better than anything they'd seen this year, and we have more talent on offense. EKU played tough, but despite being healthier and better than they were last year, we beat them by a lot more this year. If we play like this next week, watch out App.

Just got back from the game. Spiders flat in first half. Ward made some bad throws. Second half looked more like the Spiders I know. D was suffocating, and Gray was superb. O-line gradually assumed control.

Nice time with Eight Legger, The Maniac, and their crew.

Now go beat ASU!!!

Good game by EKU, you guys came to play, you came to stop the run and did that in the first half. But our offensive coordinator finally realized that your corners were playing 10 yards off our receivers and once we threw the ball = game over.

Spiders came out and dominated the 2nd half. Now back to Boone. Ugh.
