Entering this season, Northern Iowa had several question marks after being the No. 1-ranked team for most of 2007. As we have closed the 2008 regular season, most of those questions have been answered. UNI finished with a 10-2 record this season and 7-1 within the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
The 7-1 mark tied Southern Illinois for the conference title, but SIU won the league’s automatic bid by virtue of the Salukis’ victory over the Panthers.
UNI is one of two teams that received a seed this year after also receiving one in 2007. No, Appalachian State nor James Madison can make that claim even though they’re the top two seeds this year. Montana is the only other team that can make the same claim as UNI.
