Funny, I just read in another thread where someone thought that yesterday's game only proved that Elon wasn't very good. I think the voters seem to think the opposite and that LU beat a very good team soundly! GO LU!

Really its odd...going in a lot of people had Elon pegged to win by two or three TDs and basically march into the playoffs. Well something happened on the way to Elon marching into the postseason...they lost. Now you have people (there are plenty giving the Flames their due and you aren't seeing Elon folks downplaying the loss) coming out trying to say that Elon wasn't very good like you said. You cant have your cake and eat it too

First of all: Congrats, this will get Liberty that last spot for sure. See you guys next week. xthumbsupx

Second of all: This and other polls have been overranking Elon all year, so it's no surpise that it would overreact by moving liberty from 22 to 14. This is nothing new. Many of us could never understand why Elon was ranked above Richmond/Villanova for a few weeks early in the season when all head-to-head objective evidence was clearly against the pollsters.

I still can't figure out why Elon was the darling of the pollsters so early on and it continued throughout the season, including this week.

Prairie View A&M has NEVER EVER made an FCS-type top 25 poll so this is history. :(

From 0-80 just a few years ago to top 25 FCS. :(

xbawlingx WE WANT THE PLAYOFFS!!!!!!!! WE WANT TO GO TO TX STATE!!!! xbawlingx

We want you to, too! We would LOVE a home playoff game against another team that, like Texas State, has had years and years of mediocrity and down right horrible teams, and now has turned things around and is going places.

I seem to think it's a bit of both. You look at all 4 of the big games Elon played and they lost 3 of the 4 games rather convincingly (App was the only one that they were actually in it at the end).
I am not discounting Liberty or saying they don't deserve to be in the playoffs because at one point in the season I had them at #14 and moving up strongly but that loss to PC was just a bad, bad loss. With the strength of schedule it is just really hard to have that kind of a loss on your resume especially when you are talking about 2 of your OOC wins were against WCU who hasn't been good in a while and a YSU team that turned out to be a lot worse than any could imagine (that is not your fault they turned out bad and I give you props for putting them on the schedule). The Lafayette loss is respectable and the Elon game is a good win. IMHO, Liberty gets in mainly because of what happened to all of the other bubble teams around the country. LU was the only team to firmly put their foot down and say; "we deserve to be there".

I think we scheduled the right teams (WCU, YSU, ELON) and then beat them. It isn't our fault 2 of the 3 are down this year. I know the committee and pollsters don't necessarily agree with that though. I think the big point is what you said though. With the playoffs on the line, LU made a statement and won while all the other logical bubble teams LOST. This is key and LU is in.

what about Glenville State and North Greenville? And I wouldn't neccessarily say scheduling WCU is a way to strengthen your schedule. I'll give you the other two.

We had a Division I team back out at the last minute and that's why we had to go with Glenville State. The original schedule had North Greenville and 11 Division I programs. We were put in a situation of playing 11 straight games or playing another Division II school. We didn't want to do it.

An 8-spot jump? It looks like voters decided Liberty deserved the playoffs and cast their ballots with that in mind. But hey, If Jax State can climb two spots while sitting idle, I suppose it follows.

I think Liberty's in at this point, but I'm still holding out hope. Still, it's nice to finish the season inside the top 25. And with a pair of OVC teams for company, even. That's good for the league.

So no bridge AQ for the Big South. You can get an at-large as always. xthumbsupx

Liberty fans came to that painful realization. However, meeting the qualifications can only help show our worthiness for an at large, even if it isn't "automatic".
