Rattlers' defense records 7 sacks, offense rushes for 249 yards

Once the pomp of ESPN "GameDay" made way for football, the Florida A&M Rattlers performed in a manner befitting a team on the rise by plundering the visiting Hampton Pirates 45-24 before a crowd of 9.711.
And Hampton could hardly see it coming, especially with its 10-0 lead in the first quarter.

But a record-setting rushing day for the FAMU offense and a bedeviling defense wasted feckless Hampton, previously coached for 16 years by FAMU first-year coach Joe Taylor.
This was the second time in three weeks that Taylor has had to face one of his former assistant coaches.
Sweet and bitter as it was to face his former employer, colleagues and players, the win allowed Taylor to surpass legendary FAMU head football coach Jake Gaither in career victories with 205.
