Will Harvard's offensive machine be able to dent Penn's stingy defense?

Will the Crimson shake off the Franklin Field jinx that has resulted in 12 Quaker victories in Harvard's last 13 trips to that old barn (2004 being the sole exception)?

Will Penn's stupid toast-throwing fans have to eat crow when Harvard triumphs and the Zamboni breaks down?

It's supposed to rain on Saturday. What's the "over" on the attendance?

GO HARVARD!!! STUFF THE QUACKERS!xthumbsupx

I hate those dirty, cheating, no good, let in anybody with ability no matter how dumb, lowlife, ironically named Quakers.

And their coach, too.

Yale-Penn 1984.

Yale is down 20-14 and getting hosed by the homer refs they manage to find at Franklin Field (I think they kidnap the real officials). Penn ball, 3rd down, passing situation. Yale has a very good D-Lineman named John Zaneski. He rushes the passer, forces an incomplete pass, and barely touches the girl playing QB for Penn. Whistle, roughing the passer. Zaneski picks up the flag, which had landed at his feet, and throws it at the Ref. Boom, another 15 yards. The only time I have ever seen a ref walk off 30 yards. Penn scores the TD and wins 27-14, but it's still one of the funniest things I ever saw. xnodx

Didn't mean to hijack your thread, IT.

Glad you chimed in!

Of course, that's an echo of the phantom "roughing the kicker" penalty at the '82 Harvard-Penn game where the girl Penn kicker missed "his" first kick, took a dive, and was rewarded with a flag and 15 extra yards to make a chip shot. That was the start of the 11 straight losses at Franklin Field. Damn, and we came back from a 20-0 hole in the third quarter to take a 21-20 lead.xmadx xsmhx

I'm worried about that new QB Penn has dug up from somewhere. Garton. Heard he looked good vs. Princeton last week in his first start, won Ivy offensive player of the week.

I hope we get this one... I think the deflating loss at Penn two years ago (that put us out of the Ivy title tie w/ Yale & Princeton) really killed the fire w/ the team and contributed (along with Yale's understandable intensity) to that embarrassing pasting by Yale at the Stadium. Losing this week could have a similar deflating effect.

This Penn team can play, simple as that.. one of the few teams this season to run for 100 yards on Villanova's defense

As I'm now in my 50s and have less tolerance for lousy weather conditions, and as tomorrow's weather conditions at Franklin Field are supposed to be lousy, I've decided to exercise the CN8 option for this game! However, if the storm changes course, I'll head up I95.xpeacex :o :p

You did better than me. I lost my tolerance for lousy weather in my late 30's. ;)

And not just for football games. xnodx

Getting back to the subject of the thread, I like Harvard by 10. (unforunately, right now I like xconfusedx them by 10 next week, also).

Harvard's offense is as good as Brown's and they put up 34. Let's say Penn plays better "D" than they did against Brown. Harvard still scores 24.

Penn's offense is anemic and the Harvard "D" should mostly dominate them. We'll give them 2 TD's, one late to make it close.

Harvard 24-14.

Gosh, bulldog, I hope you're right. So the stars can re-align in their courses, and H-Y will have a bearing on the Ivy title as it almost always does. I picked Penn to win this on the strength of "the curse," but I'd be as happy as a quahog clam if The Game had a bearing on first place instead of second!xpeacex xthumbsupx

Now, if we can just get those Dartmouth "Indians" to scalp Brown, it will really be a fun last weekend. That is if Yale holds up their end.

Ah, yes, David Shulman. Merrill Reese was doing the Penn games on radio that Fall while the NFL was on strike. It was a different world and Penn finally broke through after many years of futility.

It's been a pretty bad season as far as weather goes in the Philly area. It always seems like it's raining or really unseasonably cold on Saturdays. The only game I've been to that the weather has been good has been the Penn Columbia game.

Nice time consuming drive by Penn stalled by a tough luck interception in the endzone. Let's see how Penn comes back from this.

7-0 Harvard, Pizatti (sp) to Richards. Hopefully Penn comes out a little more agressive in the next series, or this could turn into an ugly game. Harvard looks to be the better team.

7-0 Harvard at the half. Penn needs to come out more aggressively offensively in the second half.

Yeah, he looks like he might be a special player, and a Sophmore too. Next year is looking very promising even if they come up a little short today.

Wow. I was looking at the stats. When did Penn come up with an offense. Does that running QB make THAT much of a difference. They just about doubled H's time of possession.

It made a huge difference. You could see glimpses of his potential last week against Princeton. They didn't open up the offense until the second half. If Bagnoli let him do his thing in the first, we might have had a different outcome, taking nothing away from Harvard.
