No changes from last week in today's starting lineup according to Game Notes

The Jordan Scott Record Watch
Career Rushing TDs (Colgate): 3 TDs
Career Scoring (Colgate): 17 points
Career Carries (Division I): 24 carries
Career Carries (NCAA): 80 carries

Scott needs 28 yards to become the 8th player in FCS history to rush for 1,000 yards in all 4 of his collegiate seasons.
The distinguished list:
Jerry Azumah, New Hampshire
Adrian Peterson, Georgia Southern
Alonzo Coleman, Hampton
Clifton Dawson, Harvard
Steve Baylark, Massachusetts
Scott Phaydavong, Drake
Donald Chapman, Tennessee-Martin

Scott needs 45 yards to reach 5th Place on the Career FCS Rushing List, he is currently 6th

Other records of note coming into this game include:
-WR Pat Simonds needs 150 receiving yards to reach 10th on the school's all-time list

-QB Greg Sullivan needs 125 rushing yards to break the school's single season record for QB rushing yards, held by Tom Parr (1973), set during Colgate's days as a wishbone offense

-Nate Eachus needs 349 yards to reach 1,000 on the season, which would make him only the second freshman in school history to do so (the first being Jordan Scott)

-Lehigh is the only Patriot League school against which Dick Biddle does not have a winning record. Biddle is 6-6 against the Hawks

Both offenses have benefitted from big plays. I feel reasonable alright about Colgate's chances given how strong their 2nd Halves have been this year. Still, this is as tight a game as the score indicates, and Lehigh will have every opportunity to win it. Should be a great finish

Some game. Some good plays from both teams, especially on offense, and some really sloppy play in all 3 phases. Lehigh really is a tough luck team this year. I am so grateful to finally get out of Goodman with a win. 1 week off, and then everything to play for at home. Should be wild :)

That was not incomplete. Lehigh lost the game on special teams. Colgate has one hell of a rushing offense. Lehigh tried to contain them (I haven't seen the stats), but it was obvious Colgate was going to be able to score on that last drive. What a day for JB Clark about 340 yards passing and 4 tds! Great to see him improving. Sorry to upset all the Lafayette posters but, Lehigh didn't just roll over today.

Btw, #23 Saftey for Colgate layed a HUGE hit on Yansane. I want to see that again.

Old, old rivals with a PL title and play-off berth on the line. It will be one of the biggest games of the day in College Football on any level.

I knew Lehigh would be a very tough game; Colgate-Lehigh is always intensely competitive and we were very fortunate to escape with a victory. Clearly, our defense is far from perfect.

Well, I was there and can't recall being as pissed as I still am. Our coaches lost this game. Yes, the kids made some mistakes (5 points lost on missed PATs and FG), and fumble set up first TD. Having second down and 2 at midfield with 1:30 left and throwing downfield on three successive plays and not trying to just get the first down, which stops the clock, too, and a new set of downs is unbelievable. Timeouts wasted on lack of personnel management. I feel so sorry for our kids. They played hard and, physically did a hell of a job in the trenches. Four losses this year by a total of 8 points.xsmhx
Eachus is a hell of a good back and unfortunately we'll be dealing with him for three more years. Simonds is an excellent receiver and obviously our undersized CBs had trouble with him. Should be a great game with Holy Cross in two weeks.

I was at the game today as well and I agree. Your kicker is terrible, but even with those misses you could have easily pulled this one out. I was sitting next to a very well dressed and respectable looking Lehigh fan who was going nuts calling Cohn an Idiot and a Moron, and really at times he made good points.

Until today, I was willing to give Coen the benefit of the doubt. But today's debacle is squarely on his and his staff's shoulders. With all the grumbling I heard by a number of alums, who to date have kept their mouths shut, I think Coen has to win these next two games to keep his job.

Just put up my analysis...

http://lehighfootballnation.blogspot.com/2008/11/lehigh-33-colgate-34-final.html

FWIW, Yansane was literally inches from making that 4th down completion. I'm not sure I'd be excoriating anyone on that one play simply because the kids were in a position to make the play and came damned close to making it. The blown timeouts are a fair criticism - one from a missing man on offense, the other on the 2-point conversion attempt (why??). But I really didn't fault that call very much.

If you had to sum up this game, you'd have to say that the difference between Colgate and Lehigh is that Colgate has learned how to win these types of games - they've won four games the exact same way. And Lehigh hasn't - they've lost four games the exact same way.

TheValleyRaider
November 8th, 2008, 11:49 PM
Well, there's one of two ways to look at this

On the one hand, good teams find ways to win close games, and bad teams don't. I know that sounds harsh, but sometimes these things consistently happen for a reason. The Parcells maxim rings true: You are what your record says you are

On the other, there is definately ability on that team. Clark looked very solid under center (and as a Soph, he's likely to actually improve), and Lehigh was very tough physically. Plenty of mistakes for both teams, and I almost feel more relieved than excited to win this one. Lehigh still has talent, no doubt there

I agree with most posters here. I used to regard the assertion that Lehigh had magnificent talent that was poorly led, but today it is hard to dispute. I can not imagine how the Lehigh team that I saw yesterday had the record they do. We were fortunate to get out of Goodman with a "W". Good luck the rest of the way.

I'm not excoriating on that ONE play..We had THREE plays to make two yards and all the calls were vertical pass plays..this after Clark had just RUN for 8 yards. Biddle, himself, said after the game he was impressed with the hard running of Watson. It should not have come down to Yansane having to make an acrobatic catch along the sideline. The OC should have been sent packing last year. This is now confirmation..in addition to all the 'little' screen/dumps we ran earlier, of whch very few materialized into anything significant.

Its just been getting progressively worse. I don't know if there is an underlying injury or cause. At this point, I would say he is done.

It's a real shame. Jason is a great kid and for some reason has been sailing wide on his kicks. I think it is something like David Aker's problem last year. He strengthened his leg, but lost accuracy. Leo's attempt from 45 yards was plenty long. Would have been good from 50+. PKs are like goalies and relief pitchers, once their head gets unscrewed it's trouble. Will be interesting to see what Coen does the last two games for PK. Leo will still do the kickoffs--he had nice depth when needed yesterday, and his punting has been excellent all year. Coen can go with the Soph. Randanzo or the Frosh Smith.
