Offense – Armanti Edwards, Appalachian State

Appalachian State quarterback Armanti Edwards was a unanimous choice the Southern Conference Athlete of the Month for football. Edwards helped lead the Mountaineers to a perfect 5-0 record during the month.

For the month, the junior averaged 330 total yards of offense per game and accounted for 24 touchdowns. He passed for 1,261 yards and 16 touchdowns, with no interceptions. On the ground he rushed for 389 yards and eight touchdowns. Edwards also secured four of the five conference offensive player of the week awards during this time frame.

Also nominated for this month’s award were The Citadel’s Andre Roberts, Elon’s Terrell Hudgins, Georgia Southern’s Antonio Henton, Samford’s Chris Evans, Western Carolina’s Zach Jaynes and Wofford’s Ben Widmyer.

Defense – Mark LeGree, Appalachian State

Appalachian State defensive back Mark LeGree has been named the league’s football defensive Athlete of the Month, following a four-game stretch in which he intercepted five passes to vault himself into the national lead for INTs.

LeGree had at least one INT in each of the final three games of the month, including one at the goal line in the waning seconds of ASU’s 37-36 win at Georgia Southern and a school-record-tying three in the Mountaineers’ 70-24 defeat of No. 3 Wofford.

Also nominated for this award was Elon’s Nolan Ward, Furman’s William Middleton, Georgia Southern’s Chris Covington, Samford’s Bryce Smith, Western Carolina’s Adrian McLeod and Wofford’s James Mitchell.

The awards are supposed to go to the players that did the best. They were by far the best athletes this month.

For the month:

1,261 yards passing and 16 touchdowns, no interceptions

389 yards rushing and eight touchdowns.

24 TDs in a month - sounds more like a good season.

Gets better every year... xdizzyx

I still wonder what AE's stats would have been if he hadn't missed so many games last year
