McNeese two early field goals, but the Demons just blocked a punt for a safety. Now 6-2 early in the 2nd.

McNeese 13, Northwestern St. 2 with 9:30 left in the 2nd. Demons had McNeese with a 3rd and 30 to go deep in McNeese territory, give up a 30 yard pass, then followed up by a 56 yard pass a couple of plays later.

Demons strike back quick with a Ziegler kickoff return for 56 yards and a long AJ Franklin run. Don't convert on the 2 point conversion, however. Now McNeese St. 13, Northwestern St. 8.

Why go for two in the first half?

Why go for two in the first half?

Would have made it 13-10 I guess. Not sure why it was important to be only 3 behind this early in the game.

Demons kick FG to end the half - score 13-11 McNeese.

I think it's just because if you're down by three, it's a FG to tie. If you're down by 4 or 5, it doesn't really matter, you need the TD either way. On the other hand, down by 5, a FG makes it 8, then there's a bit more pressure, you have to make the 2. Hell, I don't know! :D :D :D

It all depends on how Nicholls and Texas State do. McNeese and Northwestern are both 2-2 in conference play. Texas State and Nicholls are both 3-1.

If Texas State and Nicholls both lose the winner of this game will have a chance at the SLC title and the playoffs.

Basically, they are playing for pride. Mathematically, if Northwestern or McNeese win out and Nicholls and Texas St. both lose out the winner of this game will be the SLC outright champion/autobid - not likely to happen. It can be argued that McNeese still has an outside chance at an at-large bid, although their blowout losses to Southeastern and Texas St. don't help the Cowboys.

Northwestern St. march down the field for a TD. Demons go for 2 again but don't make it. 12:18 remaining in the game, Demons lead 17-16.
