Even though it has been deemed the UNI dome for years being pronounced YUNEE Dome, I am sure when it was built it was meant to be U.N.I.'s Dome, someone please correct me or confirm.

I don't know.... we just called it KBS when I was there. The Rock nickname is only a few years old I think.

A.W. Mumford Stadium = "The Bluff" because our campus sits on Scott's Bluff, this name was created former coach Marino Casem. He said "it's tough on the bluff". Everybody else called it Mudford because we had a horrible field in the early 2000's.

If I remember correctly I believe that Mike Waddell, a former SID at ASU, came up with the nickname in 1999 or 2000. I say this because around that time we used the theme of "The Rock" for the schedule cards and posters. I think that year Darryl Skinner, Joe Best and a few other guys were on the poster and from then on "The Rock" has been around.

There is a whole thread on this on eGriz. xlolx Most suggestions are, unfortunately, as classy as Apphole's.

Wa Griz doesn't need a nickname to scare other teams.

Pretty sure David Jackson dubbed it the rock when he first began announcing, could be wrong but that's how I remember it anyway.

I got that beat! It was Conrad Stadium when I was there, and what we called "the Rock" was the town 8 miles away where we had to go to get beer!

Paulson is "Our House." It hasn't been this year, but we do have the two longest FCS home win streaks.

The theme used that year was "Rock Solid"... resulting in the birth of "The Rock" nickname.

McAndrew Stadium at SIU is simply called The Mac by most local fans. Considering the state the 70 year old stadium is in, MacDump is starting to catch on. It is slated to be replaced in 2010. I still have not heard what they are going to call the new stadium.

Wa/Griz doesn't have a set nickname. The Zoo is what I refer to it with some friends sometimes. I've heard it before too. It makes sense with MIssoula's nick name being Zoo Town.

Although "The Destroyer", "Boom Box", "The real 12th man", or "Better than yours" are widely accepted.

I was there when it was Conrad. WE used to call it "Conrad Beach" because on nice days dozens of kids would be studying and soaking up the sun ON THE FIELD! Even saw food delivered out there!

Oh yeah and ... in case anyone forgot ... Finley Stadium in Chattanooga has a nickname:

Kidd Brewer West.

The school likes to call Parsons Field, "Pretty Parsons". I guess those people are either blind or see the world through rose colored glasses.

Our students refer to Parsons as "Oh, THAT's where we play football"

Our opponents refer to it as "My high school field was bigger than this"
