View Full Version : The game of the week: Weber State & NAU

DuckDuckGriz

Either team with a win has a good chance to win out and claim a BSC title. NAU still has to go to Missoula but ya never know.

NAU's last Big Sky title: 1978
Weber's: 1968

This is a huge game for the conference and for those of you who traditionally consider the Big Sky as Montana & Friends

GOTW in the Sky for sure. I like Weber by a 3 or so right now. I haven't seen NAU play and there competition hasn't been as tough as Weber's, hence why I go Weber. But I won't be surprised if NAu wins.

I picked NAU by 3 - no doubt this will be a good one. I wonder how much Etuati being out for the Wildcats will have an effect - if I remember correctly he was particularly plaguing the Griz.

Thanks DuckDuckGriz for firing up the thread. It still is over an hour to game time.

For inspiration I dusted off the VCR this morning and plugged in a tape that was labeled "Archie sets a Big Sky Record". I swear, I have not seen it since I recorded it.

How about a game today that mimicks this one for fun? Both ranked, NAU and Weber St., October 5, 1996 in the Skydome.

Just a mere 4 hour Big Sky game. After one quarter, NAU 21-14. Halftime Weber St. 38-28. Mid-third quarter Weber St. 45-28.

Final Score: NAU 59-45.

Archie Amerson set the Big Sky record for TDs with seven. His last carry was for 78 yards with four minutes left and the Jacks just up a TD. Archie Amerson ended up being the Walter Payton award winner. Not bad for 5' 9" and recuited as a defensive back.

I am now ready for some Big Sky football!...how about you?

Or is Higgins doing it all through the air?

As I suspected, Weber State did a bit of exposing of NAU and their lack of big games. NAU needs to focus for next week, but it looks like Weber is for real. If I remember their schedule, they'll be the easy favorites the rest of the way, barring an upset.

Should be favored in all, but both PSU and EWU will be eager. Keep in mind you own the tiebreaker so one loss will not kill the title (that is if the Griz and Jacks win out and one of them will fall next week). Still, yours to lose. Nice to have both the Griz and Jacks in the rear view mirror.

Oh yeah. Worst team in conference on the road and two middle tier teams at home (although EWU really shouldn't be mid tier) is all you can hope for at this point in the year and you're looking to win a title. We want an outright title, though, and I expect either NAU or more likely UM to win out, so I think 8-0 is the number.

They'd get the tiebreaker for the title regarding the autobid, but technically speaking, if there were two teams with one conference loss, it'd be a shared title. It's been a fairly common occurrence in recent years.
