Missouri Valley Football Players of the Week (Oct. 4)
This week's Missouri Valley Football Conference players of the week are RB Herb Donaldson of Western Illinois (St. Louis/CBC High), FS Nick Schommer of North Dakota State (Prescott, Wis./Prescott High), and PK Steven Fetzer of Illinois State (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour High).

Offense
RB Herb Donaldson, Western Illinois, Sr., 5-11, 225, St. Louis (Mo.) CBC High
Donaldson rushed for an FCS season-high 273 yards and four TDs on a school-record 41 carries and caught two passes for 20 yards, accounting for more than half of Western Illinois’ total yards, in the Leathernecks 33-21 road win against Missouri State. Donaldson averaged 6.7 yards per carry while racking up the fifth-highest rushing total in school history. The nation’s leading scorer and fifth-leading rusher increased his scoring average to 15.6 points per game and is now averaging 166 yards per game after back-to-back 200-yard outings. With 502 yards and seven TDs in his last two games, he is just 170 yards shy of his third consecutive 1,000-yard season.

Defense
FS Nick Schommer, North Dakota State, Sr., 6-0, 197, Prescott (Wis.) High
Schommer recorded his first interception of the season, came up with seven tackles including one tackle for loss and had a pass breakup as No. 6 North Dakota State rallied from a 20-point deficit in a 35-27 win over No. 11 Southern Illinois before a sellout homecoming crowd of 18,942 in the Fargodome. He returned the interception 54 yards to set up a field goal attempt. Schommer has 11 career interceptions and is tied for No. 8 all-time at North Dakota State. NDSU’s defense limited the Salukis to 125 yards, six first downs and 1 of 6 third down conversions in the second half.

Special Teams
PK Steven Fetzer, Illinois State, So., 5-11, 185, Mahomet (Ill.) Seymour
Through the first three games of the 2008 season, the Redbirds had one made field goal and one field goal attempt. That total tripled after Saturday’s performance at Indiana State. In the second quarter, sophomore kicker Steven Fetzer split the uprights on field goal attempts from 24 and 40 yards. He also added a 7-for-7 effort on extra-point tries and finished with 13 points scored on his perfect kicking day.
