Mvemjsunpx, you a PSU fan? If you are, and while I am waiting for my membership to be ok'd, what can you tell me about the hit that the PSU guy layed on the QB for I believe WSU? Was it just one of those things and a little bit late or was he head hunting?

How can it be crappy when it has that one lone Griz fan who is always taking totally unreasonable positions and riling up the natives? That guy cracks me up.

This isn't directed at you GCM, but you bring up a point that others have on this site and other sites.

Some people choose not to register inorder to read a site. One has to register to read other parts of this site and post in all, but that doesn't stop anybody?

What is giving your email address out to another football site, keep the same login name as you do for AGS, or whatever site you visit regularly, and same password and you are set. Whenever you want to check in with the other team you just login and that is that.

IS it really that big of a deal?

Well, when you try and use the name, e-mail address etc that was being used on the original site and the registration process tells you the name is in use but the e-mail address is not registered, yada yada its just a big circle jerk. I have tried to get on the new site a dozen times and run into the same damn roadblock. So IMHO it is a POS site. xpeacex

I was at the game and as a WSU student at first run through of it I thought it was a cheap shot and that he was head hunting, especially given the track record of some of Glanville's teams. However, after seeing the replay on the jumbo-tron the hits on both Lopina and Rogers, while late, didn't appear to have any malicious intent in them. It sucks that our top 2 QBs both fractured their back in the same game though. The guy who hit Rogers definitely deserved to be penalized 15 yards for it, but nothing more should be done it was just a freak accident after that, to be honest it didn't even look like Rogers got hit that hard or went down funny.

It is if they want me to visit. It's like Blockbuster asking for your SS#, why do they need that?

Never heard of the SS# thing, but then again. I usually just go buy the DVD instead of renting them. For 5 bucks to rent it, I can pay 10-15 and OWN it. If I got from a good source or two that says it is a good flick I will buy it.

No, I'm a Griz fan. I just read the other Big Sky boards from time to time… particularly when those other Big Sky teams are just coming off a loss to the Griz. xsmiley_wix

Well there's that (plus the equally douchey responses from the PSU fans), and the outdated bulletin board format that the site uses.

Both hits on Lupina and Rogers were pretty much textbook tackles. The one on Lobbestal towards the end wasn't quite textbook (and he got the throw off), but Lobbestal still got up shaking his hand/wrist. All three looked like someone on WSU's offense missed a blocking assignment as all three were unblocked. The first was by Anyaorah, our 18 year old true freshman from Atlanta on Lupina. On the second, by Pederson on Rogers, former Cougar QB Jason Gesser, doing play by play for FSN, said about the penalty that "it was close" to being late but he didn't think it should have been called. The Big Sky has not suspended Pederson for it. The defense played tough for most of the game, it was the offense that laid an egg. Hubel admitted afterwards that it was the worst game he's ever played.

Good hitting on both sides but nothing I would call a "cheap shot". Glanville does not play that way and the kids all know it. He suspended a few last year for what he perceived as "cheap shots", and those kids are not on this year's team. He's always preaching hit 'em hard but hit 'em clean.

You must know something that I don't (and I go back to Glanville's days when he first came to the NFL). Glanville has never condoned head hunting. Hit 'em hard but hit 'em clean is what he always says. Last year when the league suspended a couple Vikings a half a game for a "cheap shot", Glanville told the two not to even suit up. He later told the media he was going to keep them away "for as long as I can. That's not how we play here".

All three hits on the QB's in the quarter looked like someone missed a blocking assignment. All three were textbook, head up and go through the man. Basic tackling drill. The first one could not have been late as Lupina still had the ball.

What have you heard about Glanville condoning head hunting? Cite me some examples, please, before you post blatant nonsense. Your credibility is seriously damaged.

Your credibility is seriously damaged.Well, there was the blatant cheap shot against Marc Mariani's fair catch in last years game that could have messed him up really, really bad.

Half of Washington Grizzly Stadium almost jumped onto the field.

I'm not saying that was a coached cheap shot, but it was probably the most blatant one I can remember in a while.

Whether or not Glanville has told his players to take cheap shots in the past (I personally believe he has not told them to, much like you say) his teams have had a reputation for playing a little while after the whistle blows. Several NFL coachs, most notably Chuck Noll and Sam Wyche were very unhappy with his Oilers style of play, Wyche memorably ran up the score on Glanville's Oiler team something like 60-7 in retaliation for what he believed were cheap shots in the teams last meeting.

I know there was a lot of worry in the USC camp when they played Hawaii a few years back when Glanville was their DC due to rumors circulating that Hawaii was going to send players head hunting for Matt Leinhart. Obviously these were just rumors and were false however I am far from being the only person to think that Glanville has had a reputation as a coach whose players take cheap shots. He might not condone them (and as you pointed out he might be taking a very hard stance on them now at Portland State) but he does have that reputation.

As I did state in my post, I originally thought the hit on Rogers was a cheap shot while watching it live. One must understand that I had my Crimson and Gray glasses on and that our QB was now lying on the ground after a play that had been called roughing the passer by the refs. As uofmman pointed out last years contest in Missoula was one of the chippiest games i have ever seen in my entire life (on both sides of the ball) and especially the shot on Mariani. Those things together made me instantly jump to the conclusion that it was a cheap shot. After seeing replays I agree that it was a clean hit, but was late enough to warrant a flag, it was just an unfortunate accident on the field.

In the aftermath of the whole thing I did gain a lot of respect for PSU, that was very classy of the whole team coming out onto the field and taking a knee by the ambulance (before our team had done so nonetheless).

Basically though: 1.) The shots on Rogers and Lopina were clean and 2.) I don't know how my credibility can be "seriously damaged" by basically stating that Glanville's teams have a reputation for taking cheap shots (whether or not he condones it, it is irrelevant).

I didnt think that any of the PSU hits were "cheap shots" I did think that Quinn took about 3 in the last game though, he only got called once. Does bobby coach that?
