View Full Version : WNC Gas Shortage Claims A Victim....

....ME! Given the current situation in WNC with regard to gas shortage, it looks as though I may be unable to attend this weeks Presbyterian game. I realize this sounds utterly ridiculous and, in this day and age, it is....local colleges have canceled night classes to count down on commuter miles, local police are being sent out to monitor the few gas stations that have gas....mainly direct traffic around the lines and diffuse volatile situations....yes, it is this bad in Western NC......in one gas station Tuesday, three fights erupted among gas patrons...welcome to 1974....wonder how it will affect other commuters coming this weekend for games?

Regardless, it looks as though there will be two tickets available if anyone is interested....pm me......

That sucks....how is it that NC is so affected by this???

I am stuck in New Mexico (working on a refinery oddly enough) no problems all the way to Dallas. But i guess that makes sense the ET & WNC situation doesnt make sense to me.

How much is gas right now?

Yep, my folks in WNC cancelled a trip to Greenville because of this. The station where I get my diet coke every morning between Clemson and Anderson got their first shipment in 10 days yesterday. At least prices are coming back down here - I saw $3.61 on the way in this AM.

Asheville seems to be worse than other parts nearby - we even made the national Fox News online. The supposition is that we have a higher percentage of independent (non-branded) stations. Right now, I've got enough gas to get to Boone for the game ... that's enough.

live in wnc, rutherford county. can not find reg in main towns but the out of town stations have perm and plus but no reg gas. if reg is available $ around 3.86 at the local cheap spots, and long ass lines when the stations release the reg gas. most other stations are above 4 a gal everywhere in the county. 10 gal limts and crap like that. but yeah it is bad all over WNC and the state.

I spoke to Appaholic yesterday. For some reason having enough gas to get to work is more important than supporting one's football team on Saturday. He is an App fan. I am sure he has a couple of broken down cars/lawnmowers/dirtbikes in his yard. I would bet he will attend this weekends game then on Sunday build himself a gocart to get to work.

On a lighter side, I paid $3.83 for premium - at an Exxon station!

Okay. I went (Drove by) NINE stations during lunch today. The Hess Station was the only one with gas, Regular at that and only 3:89. Now, beside the Hess Station every other station had bags on every pump. Took me about 30 mins to get gas after I got in line. So, not a long lunch today xrotatehx

That's what you get for buying an LSx xlolx There were several places in Wilkesboro that were out of 93. My fiancee got gas in Boone this morning and Phil's Citgo was the only place she could find. She had to put 87 in her M3 because they were out of premium.

Just don't be dumb about this people. Charlotte is a town that is notorious for making mountains out of mole hills. Case in point, watch the news during January and February around here when there is a chance of snow. There are runs on milk and gas then too, as if it is Armageddon. These are the same people who come up to Boone for a ski weekend and drive like they have ventured to the depths of the Arctic Circle.

Basically, if you can't siphon enough gas out of your kids go-cart, and you can't steal any from your neighbor, Lance Armstrong your ass to the rock.

It started acting up last week on a hike to Glassy Mtn....was pushing it too hard to get up and back down before gate closed....then, it wasn't like I was real careful in Montana this past weekend and it was really bugging me being cramped up in the airplane seats.....then, tried to hike yesterday and couldn't make it more than 500 yards from the car.....now it is very swollen, can feel bumps on backside of knee (torn cartilege?), and it's not bending much and is very weak.....

Absolutely no problem here in the Mid-West. It sounds like everyone is rushing the pumps for no reason and this is causing the shortage. At least that is what they are saying on the news here.

That's part of the problem, but not all of it.

Our gas is supplied by a pipeline that runs from the gulf states to Spartanburg, SC. Apparently oil production in the gulf had been reduced because of lower gas consumption due to higher prices. Then Gustave and Ike hit and damaged some of the refineries. That resulted in less gas available and the problem was worsened due to people panicking.
