Grace played well. 12/20, 200 yards 2 TD's, 1 int. 12 carries 84 yards, 2 TD's. If you want to blame him, go ahead. But that's a pretty good game.

Please elaborate on the crowd.

It was a good crowd, but the student section wasn't exactly "lively."

I couldn't let the "pumping in crowd noise" comment stand. We just got back from the dome, that charge is completely untrue.

UNI's offense looked okay, but not great...better as the day went on.

UNI's defense looked very, very good. They were blowing SDSU's O-line up with regularity.

SDSU has a good team that should fight to be in the top-3 or 4 in the league. Beating YSU was a good way to start, but you'll find, bunnies, that what you do against the 'Cats and the 'Dogs will determine what kind of program you are.

I believe it. UNI made more plays, and our short-handed defense lost another key player. Eric Schroeder, pre-season all American (3rd team) went down in the first half and didn't return. That seemed to suck the life out of us and that's when UNI opened up its run game.

No excuses, though. If we can't do better than 15 yards on the ground, we're gonna lose. UNI has the best d-line we've seen this year by far. Add in a great RB, some very speedy WRs, and a big QB who's tough to tackle, and it's official: UNI is good... again.

The student section was LESS than lively. They didn't know the "first down!" chant, didn't sing the fight song or UNI Alma Mater, and at one point, a guy behind me shouted, "SHUT UP, BAND!!"

xmadx

Yeah. Just ridiculous. So many of them looked like they were bored in a class. And it was like pulling teeth to get them to make noise when we were on defense, even on third down! I was raising my arms, trying to work up the crowd, and so were the players on the field, and it had almost NO impact. The friggin' WEST SIDE was louder than the student section. You KNOW that's sayin' something.

ANyone else happy that fruman beat UD?

YES.

Officials helping UNI out again. They jumped on a huge 4th and 5 play, but the boneheads didn't throw the flag. I'm sick of the MoValley officials already, sad to see. NDSU will see the same thing in league play I'm sure.

There were a lot stupider penalties called on UNI...NDSU got off lightly.

UNI playing very cheap, huge late hit on JaRon Harris. Hit him over 2 yards out of bounds. The fake noise pumped in during visiting huddles is very sophmorish as well.

THERE IS NOT AND THERE NEVER HAS BEEN FAKE CROWD NOISE PUMPED INTO THE DOME. SERIOUSLY. SOUR GRAPES...

UNI has fumbled! The **ucking MoValley officials must be related to Ed Hochuli! They call it an incomplete pass. I hate to complain about the officials, but these last two weeks have really gotten my goat.

I was there. It was an incomplete pass.

Another terrible call. The punt was into the endzone, but the boneheads give it to them on the 1. Give me a break. Houndawg, I feel your pain. Farley's bitching about NDSU and SDSU must have hit home with the officials

It was not a terrible call. AGAIN, I was there...it did not bounce into the end zone, and it was at the one. I notice you quit posting after your whine fest--did you go get some cheese to go with that?

South Dakota State will be in the running for the MoValley Championship this year, that was a good team. It is still way to early to know what is gonna happen. NDSU fans are saying how they were overrated now after one loss! One loss does not constitute a terrible season just like for UNI this one win doesn't win us the MoValley championship or even close to it. It was our first conference game and I was impressed by how we played. I really just wish people would stop making such a big deal about one win or one loss, we don't have the BCS at this level so we don't have to go undefeated to win the national championship.

I hope to have a friendly rivalry with the XDSU's, not sure if the sour grapes fans are bandwagoners, but all the people I met in CF were great. Love the Jacks.

There is an audio clip played before 3rd down telling the crowd to make noise. I've heard it a lot of places.

The refs were f***ing horrid both ways. They are Valley officials after all. The side judge had to throw a flag on holding because the idiot ref in the backfield wasn't watching the main thing he was looking for.

If I recall the rules, it's not automatic offsides if a defensive player jumps into the neutral zone. If they are in the NZ when the ball is snapped, then it IS offsides, or if they make contact with an offensive player, obviously. or if their jumping into the NZ causes an offensive player to jump, then it would be offsides.

However, I don't believe any of those things happened.
Yes, it was a bad move by the defending players, but since the center didn't snap the ball while they were in the NZ, it was not a foul.

UNI has fumbled! The **ucking MoValley officials must be related to Ed Hochuli! They call it an incomplete pass. I hate to complain about the officials, but these last two weeks have really gotten my goat.

He may not have meant to release the ball at that time, but his arm WAS moving forward. Hell, if that one Tom Brady fumble in the snow a few years ago can be ruled an incomplete pass (the "tuck rule" or whatever), this one definitely was incomplete.

Another terrible call. The punt was into the endzone, but the boneheads give it to them on the 1. Give me a break. Houndawg, I feel your pain. Farley's bitching about NDSU and SDSU must have hit home with the officials

This call did surprise me. But the sideline official was standing right there and had a better view of the ball going out of bounds before the endzone than I did. And given the positioning of the TV cameras, I doubt they had a very good angle on the flight of the ball either.

Congrats on the win UNI, you guys definitely outplayed us in this one. You controlled the line of scrimmage from the opening snap and completely turned us into a 1 dimensional offense. Can't win many games with under 20 yards rushing. UNI was the best team I saw us play last year, and its looking the same again so far this season. After seeing what BYU did against UCLA and Wyoming your score against them doesn't look nearly so bad anymore!

We get SFA on the road next weekend then McNeese at home before a much needed week off. Its looking like SFA is down again this year after WIU took it to them pretty good tonight. Hopefully we can get an easier win, heal up and come back full strength for the second half of the conference schedule.

And on the 4th and 5 play the UNI player was in the NZ when the ball was snapped at the very end of the play, but the play clock had already run out so that penalty takes precedent.

Good luck to the Jacks the rest of the season. You will win plenty more games and possibly go to the playoffs. We ended up with some pretty good rushing yards, but it was very very tough sledding against that defense of yours.

Go back and watch our coach's show. Nobody who knows anything about football was overconfident about SDSU's chances in the UNI-Dome or showed anything but respect for the program at UNI. A frustrated fan or two can't change that. We know we're a first year MVFC program. We haven't proven anything yet. Two wins are nice to have, but we got pretty beat up in those two wins which definitely speaks to the quality of this conference.

Yes, we played badly. And yes, UNI had a lot to do with that. Injuries that benched three defensive starters had something to do with it. But you don't win conference games with 15 yards rushing. That's a tribute to UNI's defensive front seven.

I guess I'd suggest you watch how our team handles themselves on the field to judge the nature of our program. You won't see them get too up or too down. They don't ever taunt or celebrate excessively. They reflect their coaching staff's philosophy of respect at all times. I'm proud of that as a fan. And for the most part, SDSU fans are the same way.

The good news: We're still 2-1 in the conference. And we play at Stephen F. Austin next week which should give us a chance to get healthier.

Personally, I'm not a fan of that stuff. We don't do it in our stadium. Our band (usually) doesn't play while the opponents are in their huddle. Our scoreboard doesn't ever pipe sound effects in to get the crowd excited (we run animations that say "let's make some noise" but those animations don't make noise.) And our PA announcer doesn't feel it's necessary to tell us what down it is when it's on the scoreboard and on the sideline indicators.

That's not to say it's wrong, it's just not the way SDSU runs its events. It seems like more of a dome thing to continually try to manage the game using sound effects. I'm sure it's tempting when you have one of those touch panel systems (from Daktronics in Brookings, probably) that allows you to play a sound effect with the touch of a button. We just don't do that at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium. If you go to an FBS game (I've seen games at Iowa, Purdue, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas) they don't run those sound effects, much either.

Cowbells are not allowed in SDSU athletics events anymore. Artificial noisemakers of any kind are confiscated at the gate. Of course dome teams can play music and sound effects over the loudspeakers right up until the snap, though. Apparently that's not "artificial." I just find it annoying. Maybe it reminds me too much of the Metrodome, which is one of the worst places on earth to watch any event.

I did say "I'm not saying it's wrong". I was just expressing an opinion, not telling anybody what do to. So why don't you try to be civil and discuss the substance of what is said instead of taking offense. If you like that stuff, tell us why. The snark is just childish.

I am pretty sure everyone knows that Cow Bells are no longer allowed, or your fans would still be doing it proudly. And you know what -- if it was allowed, I would say shake that bell until your hearts content, my friend.

We are in an entertainment age -- things do change and evolve-- and as you mentioned Daktronics (based in Brookings SD as you pointed out) has benefited from this movement.

Indoor stadium games (across the country) are a different type of event than outdoor stadium games. Variety is a good thing sometimes.

By the way -- I am not taking offense. But spare everyone the "I'm not saying it's wrong.........this is how we do it at Coughlin Alumni.... blah"

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - There was no second-half collapse this time around.

Fans can't have artifical noisemakers (cowbells, thundersticks, etc.). I believe that's conference policy.

The public address system and the band fall under a different category, but I believe they are subject to particular rules. And no, they're not allowed to play music/effects right up until the snap. I'm not sure of the exact rules, but I think they're supposed to end that stuff when the huddle is broken.

In any case, yesterday, the band played longer when UNI was on offense anyway, which was ridiculous. heh.

We have trouble with OUR band at home games, too. They play when our team needs quiet. They have this kickoff thing they do that drives the coaches crazy because there are calls that need to be made when the ball is kicked, but the band is playing while the ball is in the air! Sheesh.

What?? The McNeese fans were figuring this would be one away game where our cowbells would be welcomed. I'm sure a few will be smuggled in anyway.

The Southland Conf. allows the individual universities to decide how they police their sporting events for noisemakers. Cowbells are definitely allowed in Cowboy Stadium and are encouraged.

If you guys ever play here again, bring your cowbells with you.

The students were pathetic. I hope it was because it was family weekend and they all left so mommy and daddy could take them out to eat supper before leaving for home. xmadx

Cowbells are not allowed in SDSU athletics events anymore. Artificial noisemakers of any kind are confiscated at the gate. .

xeekx You have got to be kidding. The team that touts cowbells so heavily has fallen to that NCAA BS. xsmhx

MVFC rule. Also Summit League (our all-sports conference) rule.

I would say this picture probably sums up how the game went for SDSU - no breaks.

SDSU played well, just not enough.

Getting late to this thread but I wanted to recognize a nice performance by UNI. We didn't do many things right and thats largely because of a quality opponent. The last 6 quarters of FB have not been good for us for a variety of reasons and we need to make some adjustments, get healthy, and play better, but then again what team doesn't.

Good luck to UNI the rest of the MVFC season. Its definitely a battle and I like that. Looking forward to 3 OOC games the next 4 weeks, 2 of them at home (the toughest 2 thank goodness).
