JASON SIMPSON ANNOUNCED AS CANDIDATE FOR NATIONAL LIBERTY MUTUAL COACH OF THE YEAR
September 17, 2008

MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin's head football coach, Jason Simpson, is a candidate for the national Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year honor. At the conclusion of the 2008 college football season, Liberty Mutual will honor a coach from each division of college football who demonstrates responsibility and excellence on and off the field.

In addition to being named the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year, Liberty Mutual will make a $50,000 donation to the civic and charitable activities of the winning coach and an additional $20,000 donation to the alumni association of the winning coach's school.

Online fan voting is a critical component of the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year selection and it begins today, Sept. 17, at www.coachoftheyear.com. Fans are allowed to vote once a day for the remainder of the football season. After fan online voting concludes, and votes are collected from select members of the College Football Hall of Fame and national media outlets, a winner will be determined.

If Simpson is selected by the online voting fans and selection committee as the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year, it would be third coach of the year distinction of his career. Simpson was named the Ohio Valley Conference Roy Kidd Coach of the Year and American Football Coaches Association Region III Coach of the Year in 2006 after leading the Skyhawks to a conference championship. That same season he was also a finalist for the national Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award.
