USD scores with no time left and goes for two. Mark Newbill gets the big hit and he forces Noah Shepard to fumble before crossing the goal line.

Big game for Brian Babin (career-high 330 yards passing). Jay Lucas scores three times and becomes the fifth player in school history with 100 career catches.

Ugly but we hung on...had two TDs called back, 10 penalties...didn't score on another drive deep into their territory...but give Noah Shepherd credit, he's as good a QB as we've seen...had eyes in the back of his head and came up with some big plays...good thing is we didn't play well and still beat a good football team with a great QB...just wish we would have finished them off when we had our foot on their throat...not having Marquis Powell available in the secondary tonight, definitely hurt.

Stats make it look like a very evenly played game, with USD holding a slight 436 - 414 edge in yardage and turnovers even at 1 apiece. If I'd have known how awful the Ohio State/Southern Cal game was going to be I might have driven over from Prairieville to watch it.

USD is a really good 1-2 team.

I guess in the grand scheme of things you could say it was evenly played, but we had 10 penalties which wiped out a bunch of yards and had two TDs called back, including one that would have put us up three TDs with about 7 minutes left to play...they hit some big plays (to their credit) which evened the yardage out, but we did a better job overall of stopping them during the course of the game than they did stopping us...we also played without one of our best defensive players in the secondary which has a big impact on us when he's not in there...that said, as Mountain Panther stated, South Dakota is a really good 1-2 football team...not sure how they are depth wise over a 11 or 12 game season, but they're right there with UCA and Sam Houston IMO...could easily hold their own in the Southland.

They are a decent team. We won 31-7 last season but it took us awhile to put them away. Their Qb was very good.

Interesting choice to go for two. Any USD fans have any insight? Does Southeast have a better kicker? USD have some defensive players hurt? USD just gassed and not in good shape for OT? I can see putting the game in Shepard's hands. He's a stud.

I don't know whether or not it's a good call. I'm just wondering if there's some information I'm missing to help me understand why it was the right call.

The fact they didn't make it, by default, makes it the wrong decision; however, at the time, I would have done the same thing had I been the USD coach...they had momentum and I think he wanted to be aggressive and go for the win while it was still on their side...they were fortunate to get back into the game and their best chance to win was to go for two IMO...anything could have happened in OT, but I liked our chances had they kicked it.
