Congrats Bear Bros.

Isn't Henderson a D2 power?

I wouldn't call them a power, but they are expected to be really really good this year!

Looks like UCA did what I expected them to do. Play a very vanilla offense with no big plays and run in multiple linemen and try to find a chemistry that will be successful. Many expectant fans tonight looking for that scoreboard to light up in the 60s but I don't think Conque wanted to show his hand before playing UC-Davis..a very very tough game. Go Bears! xthumbsupx

The Reddies? Seriously?

There are some weird mascots among Arkansas D-IIs. Reddies. Wonder Boys. Boll Weevils.

How did the bears look in the contest?

I didn't actually get to watch the game in person, but from listening to it here are some things that stood out to me:

Nathan Brown...what can you say about this man...24-34-0 367 yards 3 TDs.

We had 12 different receivers catch the ball. Willie Landers had 4 catches for 98 yards (24.5 average) and 1 TD. We had two players (James Lovett and Marquez Branson) who both had 5 catches for 92 yards (18.4 average) and Lovett had 1 TD.

We were very good on the crucial 3rd down conversion, converting 10 of 15.

We lost one key player on defense (Taylor Scott ) for 3-4 weeks. Overall, though our defense seems much improved from last season. We held the Reddies who are pretty good offensively and run the spread to just 293 passing yards. Also, our D was good on stopping their 3rd and 4th downs (they were 1 of 10 and 1 of 4, respectively).

Our kicking game, a big question mark coming into the season, was solid! We had 7 kickoffs for 457 yards (65.3 ypk) and 3 punts for 141 yards (47.0 ypp). We were perfect on PATs and the one FG.

Overall, it was a good first game for the Bears. It definitely allowed the team and coaches to target areas that need work before UC Davis comes to town next week!

And don't forget we were missing 11 players due to injuries or suspensions.
