Looks like the SLC put Steven Whitehead back on the All-SLC team after a year away. Bomar is not on first or second team offense as Brown and Fourroux got the tabs ahead of him, which I can agree with.

So will Taylor Scott, first team as sophmore and not even mentioned?

I can see why our defense did not get much respect in the pre-season selections but not Taylor individually.

The proof will be in the pudding...our defense will be MUCH better than last year and much better than people are expecting.

If Taylor Scott was a first-team selection last year, he should have automatically been placed on the first-team for the preseason (barring injury or anything)...perhaps a mistake?

I believe (not sure)Taylor was first team last year at defensive end.

He is projected to move inside this year to tackle, primarily, and that may be the reason for his exclusion.

UCABears75, you are making me stop my laziness and check!

The first-team defensive linemen last year were...

DL - Bryan Smith - McNeese State
DL - Taylor Scott - Central Arkansas
DL - Vaalyn Jackson - McNeese State
DL - Chris Brown - Sam Houston State

Albert Smith from NWST was second-team and included with Jackson (McN) and Brown (SHSU). Curious how they did not keep a first-teamer on there...

Still a good list but I agree. I do think Bomar will end up on the lilst by season's end and Scott probably should have been on there. Whitehead was put on 2nd team because the 2 1st team WRs were All-SLC last year, I believe?

TT, I knew you couldn't stand it and would have to check.

The position change is the only thing I can figure but if they list them as DL only that shouldn't matter.

I know Taylor fairly well and I believe he will relish the challenge of proving them wrong.

Steven sure made things look ridiculously easy in the little playing time he got in the spring game. He looked near 100% healed.

Agreed

So will Jamelle Juneau at Free Safety who was a pre-season All-American in 07 before we lost him to grades.

He is back and ready to go for his Senior season!

You know me too well...

I contacted GL94 to see if he knew anything. He's more familiar with SLC protocols than I am. We'll see how long it takes for a response. He may be still chasing after Roomie the Lion to get an autograph for his life-size poster of the SLU Lion for all I know...

The question has been asked and answered. If you will look at the list above it only lists 3 DL's on the first team defense. Taylor Scott's name was simply omitted/not tranferred properly on this list.

Taylor Scott is 1st team pre-season SLC.

Whitehead was the 1996 SLC MVP. Not to mention 2006 and preseason 2007 All-American. Was injured in week 2 and got a Redshirt for 07.

I don't care WHO was all SLC in 2007. They will not be able to tie Whiteheads shoes by the end of the year. And Foureaux's running ability coupled with Whitehead, Quintin Lawrence, and a couple of names that will be there in the end will be the reason he beats out Bomar EVERY year.

I agree that Brown is 1st team however.

Also look for Jamel Juneau 2007 Pre-Season All American selection at FS to be there by year end for McNeese. We lost him before game one due to grades and was redshirted. He will return in shape and ready for his senior season.

FYP to start with.

Whitehead was caught up with the protocol that the SLC uses to pick the pre-season All SLC teams. Anyone who was All SLC at the end of the year and that is still around keeps their spot. And then players are voted on to fill the holes left by seniors that left, etc.

Try 6-5 265

I agree with you. Just that I heard they have a rule about who got 1st team All-SLC and was pointing out that was probably it. We all know Whitehead should be on the list by season's end. xthumbsupx

Just tracked down Roomie and got his graph, he's one tough cookie ... I'll have it available on E-Bay for a small fee (and could be neg points for you TT :p ) ...

Yes, if you finish first team the previous season and are returning, you're automatically on preseason team the following year (also if you're second or honorable mention and there are slots open above).

Which will put to rest questions re: Bomar and his appearance or lack their of. I'd slot him at #3 to begin with anyway behind Brown and Fourroux as Bomar has not really proven too much in the SLC. He was hurt for 2+ games...

Heck if one game counted for anything, I'd put Mark Fontenot, McNeese's backup at the top. He played better against us than any QB we faced last year, including Nathan Brown and Forroux when he was in the game. I don't think it's possible for a human being to throw a ball more accurately than he did on that night.

That said, I agree with the All-SLC picks at QB.

I feel that if something ever happened to Fouroux, we'd be in good shape with Fontenot in the game.

He's a senior this year.
