"All the other players were making fun of me, saying, "Oh my god, are you really that old?" laughed Alexander, whose nicknames at EWU are grandpa and pops. "They saw me eating fruit and told me I needed to eat that way to stay healthy and asked if I wanted some calcium to keep my bones healthy. They were all over me but I told them that I’m used to it by now."

"Go ahead and give it to me -- I’m old, I’m old," he continued. "I’ll be 26 in November playing against 18-year-olds. They call me old until I hit them." xlolx xlolx

2008: Listed as a starter at fullback on EWU's preseason depth chart.

2007: Named to the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team. A three-game starter in 2007, he won the starting tailback position early in the year after starting as EWU's fullback in 2006. He had 122 yards and a touchdown against UC Davis (9/15/07) in EWU's second game of the season, including a 57-yard run that set-up an Eagle touchdown. In his next game versus Idaho State (9/22/07), he scored three touchdowns and had 57 yards on just five rushing attempts. He also scored touchdowns against Portland State (9/29/07) and Montana State (10/13/07). He was the team's offensive player of the week against ISU and offensive team captain versus Montana (10/6/07). He suffered an abdominal injury against Sacramento State (10/27/07) that was later diagnosed as a hernia, and he missed the last five games of the season.

2006: Earned second team All-Big Sky Conference honors. Was honored as the team's Offensive Player of the Year. Started six games at fullback, including the last five games of the season. He made his Eagle debut against Oregon State (8/31/06) when he played in his first football game in six years dating back to his senior season in high school in 2000. He earned team offensive player of the week and special teams player of the week honors as a result of his performance against the Beavers. He carried only 12 times during the season with a game-high of 37 yards against Central Washington (9/16/06) that came on his first carry of the game. Two of his four catches came against Weber State (11/4/06). He originally came to Eastern as a linebacker after transferring from Washington State University.

WSU: Walked-on in the 2004 season following a brief professional baseball career. He was a defensive scout team player for the Cougars after going from receiver to defensive back to linebacker.

Minor League Baseball: Was an 18th-round draft choice by the Kansas City Royals in the 2001 Major League Baseball draft. He hit .225 in 355 career at bats, with five home runs and 22 stolen bases. He spent the 2002 season with the Spokane Indians of the Class A Northwest League. HS: Graduated from Medical Lake HS in 2001. Washington Prep Football Report selected him as a first team All-State linebacker in his senior season. He also earned honorable mention All-State honors from Associated Press as a senior running back. He was the Great Northern League Offensive MVP as he earned first team all-league honors as both a running back and linebacker. He played in the East-West 2A All-State Game. He had a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown while at Medical Lake.

Personal: Born 11/18/82. He will turn 26 three days after EWU hosts Northern Arizona. Electrical engineering major.

Neat story.

Furman's Chris Yankow spent eight years in the Army before coming back to college. He's 29 and probably is in the best shape of anyone on the team.

Is there an age limit for college sports?

I wouldn't think so. Ther was a guy I remember hearing about last year at some University in Texas that wa between 50-70 years old. I don't remember the exact number nor do I remember which university. I think it was a NAIA school. Since I'm at work, I cannot research this to give you concrete info.

I'm pretty sure our oldest player is Bradley George, our starting QB. He's 26. He pitched in the Minor leagues for a few years before coming to Texas State.

I'm not sure who he is, but I think he's 19. Youngest team we've ever had!

Okay, maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but we do have almost 60 true or redshirt freshmen.
