Was in Missoula last week on vacation from Florida.. Took some pics of my own at the stadium and talked FCS football with a few players and coaches. Wished them well and hoped to see them in Chatty. All I spoke with were first class guys, even though I was wearing a little Appalachian gear! Had to get a few pics of a cool stadium, still partial to Kidd Brewer, of course. I appreciated all the hospitality and The Missoula Club does a good burger. 48 more days.

pac10jim wishes elkmcc would post on AGS. He has been a contributor to numerous boards going way back to the old AOL and escribe boards of the '90's and always seemed to have info on things you might expect only from an insider. I often read egriz just to look for his posts.

Does anyone know why he doesn't post on AGS any more?

Maybe it's just me, but I find it remarkable how HUGE Montana's stadium looks compared to how few it actually seats. Granted, 25,000 is a huge capacity by FCS standards (with the exception of a few Ivy League & SWAC schools), but it still looks bigger than it actually is.

I pulled up Wake Forest's Groves Stadium (er, uh, BB&T Field), which has 6,500 more seats, to illustrate my point. Doesn't Wa-Griz look far bigger despite have fewer seats? (The pic of Wa-Griz was taken before the new eastside grandstand.)

By the way, Griz fans, that stadium looks awesome. I'm sure that is a wonderful setting in which to take in a football game, and a gorgeous campus to enjoy one's college years. xthumbsupx xthumbsupx xthumbsupx xthumbsupx xthumbsupx

That's probably the most light-hearted thing you've ever said, Mpls. Something that's insulting, yet clearly a joke not to be taken offensively. Way to go! xthumbsupx

I have a question, no smack intended. Why did NDSU move up to FCS? Shouldn't they have just jumped right into the Big 10?

The latest news is we will get new SprinTurf this summer also. Apparently the pro-rated Warranty will cover about 20% of the $450K needed to replace the turf. So for opening day we'll have the new deck with Indoor Club, a new $500,000 sound system (added after construction bids came in lower than original cost estimates), and new turf. Note the cost to replace the turf is less than half of the original install which was $1,000,000.

Are they going with that same ridiculous bear at the middle of the field or a logo more representative of the university?

Do they really need to replace the turf?xeyebrowx
Seems like they just got that stuff not too long ago.

speaking of turf, I noticed as soon as I walked on the field last week (see previous post), the surface was very hard and looked like it was due for a make-over. Good job, Grizzes....and that grizzly in the middle of the field looks great in person....

It was used 2001-2007, 7 seasons. It has a 10 year Warranty pro-rated. The surface is still usable but there was a SprinTurf company representative that determined this past winter it is something to do with the sub-surface and the way it was wearing, nothing to do with lead dust/residue like some other turf companies products. SprinTurf has made some nice improvements to their product since 2001 and the new surface should last longer.

I drove through missoula and stopped by the stadium on the way back from camping.
All I have to say is that the Griz are definitely stepping it up.
I remember one broadcast on ESPN a few years back. The commentators said the stadium decibel levels were reaching that of a jet engine. That is about as loud as you can get. And all with 23,000 people.
Add that 2,000 more, and we should be even louder. is that possible?
The new sound system is going to be BUMPIN'...and i'm stoked to see all of these things in action.
And the maroon endzones even get me excited. YAY griz.
As a student at the University of Montana, I believe that the athletic program is a large reason for many who come to the University. It is the biggest show in the Northwest by far! Griz games rule

And how sad for mt. sentinnel to burn like it did. But a black mountain isn't too bad i guess. haha. GO GRIZ!
