This is a thumbnail compilation of final stats and subtracting those
of roster departures due to graduation, eligibility, etc. Should
provide a quick sketch of returning talent vs conference foes.

RYPG = 2007 rushing yards per game
PYPG = 2007 passing yards per game
SR-RB = subtracted yards per game for roster departures
SR-QB = ditto
SR-WR = ditto
SR-OL = equivalent number of off-linemen departed (starters or not)
…based on number of games played, not incl long snappers if known
SR-D = percentage of defensive talent departed based on top 15 tacklers

You would also have to consider the return of the SLC 2006 Player of the Year, WR/KR Steven Whitehead after he set out almost all of last season with and injury.

...especially if Perrilloux is one of them.

Of course, if Perrilloux is one of them, history says he'll be gone again by about week 8...

I don't think that stat for the UCA defense is anywhere correct. We had 4 or 5 guys get into trouble from the defense earlier this year I believe(i.e. credit card theft)..and we lost a 3 more due to bad grades and few offensive players with good grades transfered. But...the offense will be phenomenal with Nathan's senior year and a slew of incoming offensive players and some more defensive players. But overall, I think this year will look just like last year..with the possible exception of a weaker defense..geez, what can a coach do with a transition team when you can't control players actions?...but time will tell. Looks like the conference overall will be killer!
Tulsa, UC Davis, then the conference..it's gonna be a long season! xlolx

It needs to get stronger. Its been pretty weak the past 2 seasons.

Have revisited the UCA roster and corrected for stats of those undergrad
players not on the roster (Nick Christie, Shaman Thompson, Jarrad Dale,
and Andrew Summersett) and for three players facing suspension
(Curtis Marks, Phil Johnson, and Henry Minor). Thank You, UCABear

Looks about right. TXST deserves to be ranked last based on last years performance. Good thing poles don't determine the out come of the season.

Week 8, try week 4! xnonono2x

All in all, I really think the Southland will have more than one playoff team if these numbers hold true!

Darn this transition period...Darn you N-C-A-A! Oh well. I believe its going to be a very strong year for the SLC anyway and for my Bears to make it as a runner up or even the champion..it would take another down year by many of the other teams...and that ain't happening this year!xthumbsupx

All I can say is that we will be better. Most of our starting offense (including Jay Lucas) are back and we return a good chunk of our defense (with a lot of guys who saw playing time as true freshmen).

We have a tough non-conference schedule highlighted by games at Mississippi State and LaTech. If we can come out of those two injury free and can learn to win on the road (at Alcorn State, MSU and Tech plus conference games at SFA, UCA, SHSU and Nicholls), we might finally live up to our darkhorse status we've had since 2005

I also think every team will have better defenses this year too.

EVERYONE but McNeese started a very young D-Backfield last year. They have to get better.

That'd be nice. This league is meant to be rough and I was surprised that McNeese was able to run the table. Let's hope the league is balanced this year with a few teams making a run at the playoffs. Of course, scheduling may get in the way for a few...

McNeese will be better this year, and took a couple of major steps to bring back our old "60 Minutes of HELL" defense like we used to have in the 90's.

I think we will have an excellent replacement for Smith in a Kid Named Elliot at DE.

The coaches are just plain excited about the DB's and a new coach on D will have the LB's playing like they own the field.

But this Offense will be BETTER than last years. Not just because Whitehead is back and ready... But because of some more speed and power in the backfield.

Penland and Erick are all grown up and ready to inject some speed at the RB position, but by the time conference play comes around, remember the name, BUBBA VAN TAYLOR.

One quick comment: these stats are not in ranking order,
they are alphabetical, UCA being Central Ark of course.

Pre-Season ranking/predictions will be published in August.

Please carry on with your informed responses, appreciated.

Sounds a lot like TXST. Our focus was defense this year. There were several games we lost due to the fact we couldn't stop an eighty year old man in a scooter going deep. Our new DC has lots of experience and was a key part to the UNT defense that led the Sun Belt in '05(i thinK). This year speed was injected in our defensive back field and we have three solid RB's coming back. A veteran QB and WRs. One name you may hear a lot is MISHAK RIVAS. Who was mentioned in another thread he will be participating in the State Finals 400M dash. He is familiar with our offense since his HS ran a similar style of offense. I think this year will be about defense, and who can control the ball. There may not be too many high scoring games but excitement none the less.

I agree, I think eveyone will be better and it will be tough for anyone to run the league this year. Lotta gunslingers in the SLC this year xnodx

remember the name, BUBBA VAN TAYLOR.

I have three complete game videos of Itawamba CC...Van Taylor wasn't the best running back on their team. He's a solid back and will do fine for you guys but he's hardly a difference maker.

I'm sure he is no Jay Lucas in your opinoin but when you compliment him with the speed backs on the Cowboy Roster positive things are going to happen.

Tsk, Tsk, Tsk....

You obviously don't know who you're talking to. Why, his opinion on any facet of the game is the dispositive final word...

If you don't believe me, just ask him. He'll tell you, himself.
