You guys should know that Jackson State and Coach C will be a force this year. Even with a new QB.

Here's an article from the game (http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/17950469.html?showAll=y&c=y). And the Southern/Jackson game can usually go either way.

Even with hodge-podge lineups on both sides of the ball, Southern pleased the top man, who isn’t normally prone to a lot of gushing.

After the Jaguars went through 81 plays during in the spring-practice-ending Blue and Gold Game on Saturday at A.W. Mumford Stadium, head coach Pete Richardson tossed bouquets that matched the balmy weather:

1.) “We’ve got the makings. We’ve got a lot of positive things.”

2.) “I like the attitude of the players. They’re flying around to the football on both sides. … That was our key last year.”

3.) “We had the effort out here.”

Jersey No. 20 isn’t the norm for a defensive end.

That’s where Geremy Garth, a former defensive back who had been working mostly at drop linebacker, lined up Saturday during Southern’s Blue and Gold Game at A.W. Mumford Stadium.

Garth, listed at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds and wearing No. 20, has become an interesting project this spring as SU worked without several ends, including Vince Lands (knee), a first-team All-Southwestern Athletic Conference selection, and Dexter James (knee), coming off a promising freshman season.

Garth, who had five tackles last season, wears game jersey No. 26.

“He has a motor,” defensive coordinator Terrence Graves said. “He’s learning the position. You put 10 or 15 pounds on Geremy, and he’s going to be hard to deal with. It’s encouraging to see him out there. He’s going to give you everything he has. Great attitude. It’s always a plus to get guys like that.”
