25,350. The way they are doing this expansion preps the stadium for a 2nd phase that will be very easy and cheap. The concessions, bathrooms, and stadium club are all goin in now. The deck runs from the 10 yard line to the 10 yard line. The next phase will be adding on to each end of the deck taking it to the back of each end zone. That adds 40 yards of new seating and will take the stadium to 28,000.

During your next phase, you should just put in a heli-pad and have the players army roll out of the choppers for their entrance. Who's flying the chopper? Monte, of course.

It looks like it will be worth the wait. Very impressive.

It has taken a long time. They spent the first year demolishing the old stadium and erecting temp bleachers for the football season. They then tore those down and built the new bleachers in time for last years season, and now they are working on the superstructure that will house 2 levels of suites and another level of press boxes. Suppossed to be done prior to this season. I guess it would have gone faster if they could have just added onto the old stadium like Montanna is doing, but the old stadium really needed to come down.

Work continues to progress on the Cowboy Stadium artificial turf
Completion date is 60 to 70 days after start

Work continues to progress on the artificial turfing of McNeese State's Cowboy Stadium.

The latest on the project is that construction workers have removed all of the dirt necessary from the field and the next step will be for the laser leveling of the stadium floor.

There will no longer be a crowned field at the stadium. The new project calls for only a one degree grade.

Once the leveling has been done, a new drainage system will be installed and work will begin on installing the turf itself.

The new drainage will circle the field and water that gets on the field will be channeled to drainage basins, no water ever standing on the field itself.

Some of the old drainage will be utilized including the pump that pushes the water out of the stadium. McNeese officials said that plans are also underway to install generators for the pump so it could pump out water if electricity goes off.

This would remove the possibility of another flooding like happened during Hurricane Rita when up to four feet of water covered the stadium floor for numerous weeks with no way to get out.

Great Link!

I was at the Davidson vs. App Basketball game last night, and heard that the away side will be a separate deck, not like the home side. I can't wait to see renderings of it. Hopefully they will leave room in between the lower portion of the away side and the new deck for added boxes.

Also, has anyone heard any updates on a new video board at Kidd Brewer? I remember riding up there to the Richmond game and hearing Cobb talking about the possibility of upgrading to one that was 4 times the size of our current one.

yes upper and lower with some amount of overhang. I would really really like to see some renderings posted on goasu so we can just know 100%.

Eric, you are unfortunately misinformed. The East side will not mirror the west side, as shown in the virtual tour. The designers of the tour simply took the stands from the west side and turned them around to show what an expansion may look like. The expansion will be a raised deck, with space in between the lower and upper to allow room for the addition of boxes in the future. There will also be restrooms and concessions underneath the new structure. I believe that it will be built of pre-cast concrete.

I am sure that the actual bleachers are aluminum (or steel - some type of metal :p ), but I thought that I read that the structure would be pre-cast. I could be wrong, as I haven't talked to Charlie about it. As long as it looks good, I don't care what it is made out of.

Beau I believe you are correct, the seats are pre-cast. They will hang over the existing seats (10 rows or so) and there will be space left to put boxes down the line. That is excellent planning by our leadership.

ericsaid

Well whatever sounds good. I haven't been informed at all i was just saying what I had seen on the Virtual tour video. I believe the two sides will be the same height. So they can connect them with bleachers on the hill eventually.

If they built them above where they are putting new restrooms under the scoreboard.

Speaking of scoreboards, are they going to get the one they said would possibly be 4 times bigger than the one they have now. I eard that it's a possibilty on the pigskin preview before the Richmond game.

A new development in our expansion. During the Lady Griz halftime show it was announced they are investing $500,000 in a new state of the art audio system around the stadium which will be ready in time to kick off the new season. It will have speakers located thoughout the stadium. The old system had two large speakers at the scoreboard.

I would personally enjoy seeing the hill filled up and then leave the field house. Would pump up the players more rushing out onto the field into that type of setting i would think. Would give it a more enclosed fill.

Would pump me up more anyway.

Goasu has stepped up the construction updates over the past week. I can't seem to post the pictures here while I'm at work though. It looks like they have completely removed all of the towering pines that were behind the east side along the Quin center parking lot (bummer). It does put in perspective the scale of what they are trying to build though in a very short period of time.

As much as I would hope it is not the case, I have my doubts about this being finsihed by opening day next year.

Just wait till they take away those student sections between the 20's so they can make them high $$$ reserved season tickets with Yosef Club Memberships attached. It has happened at Montana. The students sit in the end zones for football and basketball.

Talk about starting a ruckus. xeekx

Suites, locker rooms, TV production facility, concessions, things like that. It will include a "recruit room" where prospects will be able to watch a game as though they were in a luxury suite.

Space is an issue at ODU, but we are building a practice facility that will have a field and a three quarter field (outdoor for both). That facility will include a weight room and coach's office space. It can be seen on the cam site as well under "Sports Complex." As to the exact features, I have to rely on the university web site for information since I live a little over 800 miles from campus. I did buy season tickets, though and plan to make about two games a year.

We have season ticket holders in Portland, Seattle, Reno, and California that only make a couple or three games a year. The rest of the their game tickets from their season ticket package can go to "Griz Kids". It's for poor kids that can't go to the games otherwise. "Griz Kids" asks all season tickets holders that can't make it to a game to donate that ticket or tickets to the kids.xnodx xbowx

That's a great idea. I'll see if ODU has such a program and if it doesn't, I'll suggest they start one. In the meantime, I'll see where my tickets can do some good when I'm not using them. I would hate to have empty seats at the games and giving them to kids is a win-win.

I doubt Kansas will just sit there with their stadium like that with the success they are having.

Look for them to announce stadium upgrades that will sink the field and move the stands in closer as well as put the track elsewhere.

I can't read your so-called mind. How would I know you didn't mean to type "there are no more FBS examples"?

Ohio Stadium had a track for over 75 years. Their success in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and most of the 90s didn't make them feel like they were playing on a high school field.

And neither did the track at the LA Coliseum when the Rams and UCLA played there.

I would personally enjoy seeing the hill filled up and then leave the field house. Would pump up the players more rushing out onto the field into that type of setting i would think. Would give it a more enclosed fill.

Would pump me up more anyway.

I have been told that when the new press box is completed that there will be a tunnel from the locker rooms on the west side to the field level. xthumbsupx

I hope you never have to work at Grizzley Stadium in Montana. There is just enough room for the players, coaches, trainers and benches. After that.....about 2 inches and then the crowd. They are literally sitting on top of the players.

Hopefully all we lack now is a little landscaping at the foot of the end zone berms.

As I said in another thread...

Right now we need a new on-campus arena and a re-built baseball stadium for more than we need new end-zone seating.

But, there was a proposal circulating around about 3 years ago with a conceptual drawing that depicted about 2,900 new endzone seats in the North EZ under the new Field House. That would be the opposite side of the stadium from where the field house is now.

Once we get a new arena , and there are NO plans in the works at this time (only some talk among a few supporters), than I would think that stadium expansion would be the next logical step.

Even if we can't fill all the new seats (2,800 in the North EZ, and 1,250 in the South EZ , would increase our Capacity from (unofficially) 18,000 to around the 22,150 range. But, we really don't need that at this time.

BUT, seats in Cowboy Stadium or 18 inches wide. The average size Louisiana ass is closer to 22 inches wide. xlolx We could spread things out a little and widen the seats in the reserved area and increase ticket prices to compensate for the lost of seats per row, and make the stadium not only more comfortable, but also appear to be much more full and keep the total capacity about where it is now. AND simply remark the bench seating everytime we have a premium game that might require additional seating. So we could have an 18,000 seat stadium that is easily expandable to 22,150 just by remarking the seating from 24 inches to 18 inches.

We could do this for around 3.5 million if we use aluminum bleachers masked within concrete walls and steps. It would look something like this...
