This is a thumbnail compilation of final stats and subtracting those
of roster departures due to graduation, eligibility, etc. Should
provide a quick sketch of returning talent vs conference foes.

RYPG = 2007 rushing yards per game
PYPG = 2007 passing yards per game
SR-RB = subtracted yards per game for roster departures
SR-QB = ditto
SR-WR = ditto
SR-OL = equivalent number of off-linemen departed based on
.. number of games played, not including long snappers if known
SR-D = percentage of defensive talent departed based on top 15 tacklers

Who do you see as the favorite or most improved?

Tough to say if you don't use all the variables you need to make a sound guess. You can't just figure in how many seniors were lost and starters lost without looking at the FBS transfers and JUCO transfers. These guys usually come in and make an immediate impact at their position.

On the surface that 59% on the defensive side for CSU might look like the defense is going to be pretty weak this season, but if you look at the pickups from FBS and JUCO's CSU will likely field a much stronger defensive line this year than last.

If I had to wager a guess I would say it would be a dog fight between Coastal, Liberty and Chuck South this year.

I think it would be Coastal, Liberty, and Gwebb, fighting for it, like has been the last 2 seasons.

In my figures , Coastal and Gardner-Webb only lose 3 starters on offense and 2 on defense. Liberty loses the most starters, but they are the undisputed conference champions so naturally they are # 1 going into next season until someone can stop them. Stony Brook also may be in the mix.

I'm sorry, but Charleston Southern I don't even think comes close next year, The only team the beat last year in conference was VMI, and they got it handed to them by Liberty and Coastal.

Chuck South scored a grand total of 12 points against CCU and Liberty last year, and both games were at home if I'm not mistaken. There's no way they're in the top half of the league. I'm saying:

G-W's biggest improvements this year will come within the offensive line, so those rushing numbers could well be elevated throughout next season. That will help everything.

Defensively, a big loss in Johnston (NFL), but they do have quite a bit of their starters back and signed some good help earlier this month.

That may be the case, but is your philosophy of throwing the ball around like crazy going to change? If not, the better offensive line will just cut down sacks, not help rushing stats.

I think it is waaaaaay too early to tell who will finish at the top. The bottom I agree. We don't even know who our QB is. If it's Will again, you might as well drop us to 4th, if it's MacDowall - the Wake Forest transfer - or Childers things could get interesting.

*K, P, LS, etc. all returning
*Liberty comes to Conway this year (may not mean much?)

That is strange. I thought we would be playing them this season not 3 years from now. Its ok though with 5 conference games gives us more non conference choices. Should be an interesting season.
