Ha. Yeah. If USA offered 5 years/$350,000 I wonder what Bourne upped their extension offer to.

I was confused on that part. The article made it sound like the deal was for 5 years worth a total of $350,000, but that doesn't sound right, does it?

With what he's got going on at JMU why would he leave?

If it was a BCS team I could see it.

But a non BCS team would not be a promotion.

I was thinking it's $350,000 per year for 5 years....???

That would make more sense, although well out of the range set by USA (200-275).

The grammar in the article (I'm such a nerd) says 5 years worth $350,000 and does not say per year.

Yeah, but there is no way that makes sense because $70,000 a year would be a significant decrease from his current salary. It has to be $350,000 per season. Who knows if that's even correct, it's probably just an unconfirmed rumor. And of course it's the DNR, grammar isn't their forte after all. :D

This is what makes me think it's 350K per year. xlolx xlolx

The length of the deal also didn't make sense for Matthews. At five years he would be one year into a full I-A slate, the record would almost certainly justify a firing even if he did a great job.

MATTHEWS REMAINING FOOTBALL COACH AT JMU (http://www.jmusports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=14400&ATCLID=1388625)

Just more confirmation on JMU's Athletics website.

Jeff Bourne:

The athletics program and the university have been extremely pleased with the level of competitiveness and sportsmanship of the football program during Coach Matthews’ tenure. The JMU football program is in an ideal position to continue competing at a national championship level for years to come. Because of this foundation, JMU’s football program remains an attractive option for highly recruited student-athletes from around Virginia and the country as is evident in the most-recent recruiting class.

We’re very pleased with Coach Matthews’ decision to remain as head football coach at JMU.

Maybe not...but I know a 100k+ raise would be a promotion. Thats the biggest difference us and them. The green stuff is bigger over there.

With JMU's 1k+ temp bleacher expansion, the ASU game (which comes after homes games against UMass and NC Central but before Parents' I mean "Family" weekend (PC BS run amuck), 15.8k (capacity was listed as 14.5 k last couple of seasons) with overflow of maybe 17k-18K should set a stadium record, esp if ASU comes in at #1 IF JMU is 3-0 & top 5, setting up the biggest home game in JMU history. You will see streamers like you've never seen before...they certainly won't be in moderation..they will drown out the sun....xlolx .

Even with a loss in Baton Rougue, there is a decent to good chance that Appy St stays number 1.

They will stay #1 unless someone in the Top 5 beats a 1A team in the first week. They might also slide if they get like 50-0, which I doubt happens. I hope they are undefeated and ranked #1 when they come to H-burg. We have a good history lately of knocking #1's off.
