it's not on there any more. I think someone screwed up and we weren't suppose to know yet, so they took it down when they realized. Must be a big announcement planned

I'm excited it's a great schedule. LSU and a strong FCS ooc game at JMU can't ask for much more in the regular season. I'm glad we have the bye before JMU though, just in case we get bang up stickin it to the Tigers.

I was on the ACC website to look at their football schedules and I noticed that FSU has schedule Western Carolina and UT-Chatty in back to back weeks. What's up with that.... Why not play some of the stronger teams from the SoCon instead of the 2 programs that are trying to build themselves up from ground zero.

working around open dates with other SoCon teams this is the best guess complete schedule

8/30 at LSU
9/6 Jacksonville
9/13 Bye
9/20 at James Madison
9/27 Presbyterian
10/4 The Citadel
10/11 at Samford
10/18 at Georgia Southern
10/25 Furman
11/1 Wofford
11/8 at Chattanooga
11/15 Elon
11/22 at Western Carolina

games in bold are the only unconfirmed dates

Then Elon or Wofford game could be on September 13th as both of those schools have nothing that day, but its likely the games are later.

re: LSU vs. Appy State in '08 confirmed (Posted on 2/8 at 4:13 p.m. to Acadiana Tigers)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

quote:

Then who should it have been ?

ANY 1-A school...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt07.htm

Appy State is better than 50% of D1-A teams. Here is a list of BCS teams they rank higher than in the sagarin:
Louisville
Michigan State
Maryland
Kansas State
Vanderbilt
Washington
Colorado
Purdue
Georgia Tech
Nebraska
Washington State
NC State
North Carolina
Stanford
Pittsburgh
Indiana
Iowa
Ole Miss
Notre Dame
Iowa State
Syracuse
Minnesota

That is 21 schools that the Sagarin computer rankings have Appalachian state higher than.
Just for kicks: Appalachian State is better than:
5 of the teams in the Big 10
3 of the teams in the Big East
3 of the teams in the Big 12
3 of the teams in the Pac 10
2 of the teams in the SEC
4 of the teams in the ACC
than Notre Dame

There's a reason why they beat Michigan folks. Her e is their Sagarin Rank (the only computer ranking system that includes I-AA and I-A for comparison) the last few years:
2007: 44
2006: 53

My point is, if they were in I-A they would have been better than 1/2 of the teams. They are not the normal case for a I-AA team. They ain't Furman.

I would laugh if

ASU beats LSU
GSU beats UGA

Then LSU and UGA meet in the SEC Championship.

Cause then the ASU-GSU winner could claim to be the SEC Champ :D. Of course it would be ASU ;)

Furman beats VT......VT is the clear favorite of the ACC. The SoCon potentially could house the 2008 ACC & SEC Champs! Haha xlolx:D

Appalachian wraps up the non-conference portion of its schedule with a Sept. 27 home date versus Presbyterian. The Family Weekend contest is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m., marking the first regular-season night game at Kidd Brewer Stadium since the 2001 season opener

If ASU is going to miss the playoffs, I prefer to do it by scheduling tough competition and coming up short on the field rather than playing it safe.

Two of our three titles have come in seasons when the team was energized and gained confidence after big games against better talent.

I never like thinking about it this way, but 8-4 gets us in. I know others may argue, but in the committee's eyes the Michigan win did nothing for us. Surely they couldn't count an LSU loss against us. If we are 2-2 and banged up then yes it could be a dangerous schedule. I have to believe that knowing who we have first will only provide more motivation to spring and summer camps.

If we went 2-2 with losses against LSU and JMU then lost a conference game (Elon, GSU, Furman?) App would still be in the playoffs at 9-3 with a good shot at the NC, heck you'd have to think we'd even still get in at 8-4 due to our track record and schedule......

I'm looking forward to that second game when ASU gives some of that LSU money to Jacksonville! 2008 will be the second year for Kerwin Bell at JU. JU struggled in 2007, but there were hints of things to come.... I expect JU to be improved, and catching ASU coming off a big game at LSU could be very interesting. ASU is certainly hoping to buy an FCS win by bringing JU into town.... Seems like there was a team up here in Michigan that had a similar idea.

Oh, and for the record.... I fully expect ASU to give LSU everything they can handle and then some. Do I expect ASU to win? No. But will I be surprised if ASU wins? Not a bit! I will certainly be an ASU fan in week one, and a PFL fan in week 2.

Is this just the 09 game moved up to 08 or will we have LSU for the opener two years in a row

This is the '09 game moved up a year. As of now we do not have a FBS game in '09. LSU is really doing their part to help finance ASU's facility enhancements. They paid us $350,000 for the '05 game, then $200,000 to move the '07 game to '09. Now they are tossing in $550,000 to move the '09 game up to '08. That's $1.1 million for essentially two games. When you toss in the $400,000 plus expenses from Michigan game that became availavle on the date LSU opted out on, the total runs up to a cool $1.5 million for three games.
