This week's Players of the Week in the Gateway Football Conference are WR Sam Logan of Indiana State; LB Kai Stewart of Illinois State; and P Ryan Hoffman of Illinois State.

Offensive

WR Sam Logan, Indiana State
Jr., 6-1, 205, Kentland (Ind.) High
Logan caught 10 passes in the first quarter and finished with a school-record 17 catches for 151 yards and a touchdown at Murray State. Those 17 receptions also are a Gateway Football Conference single-game record (UNI’s Eddie Galles vs. SIU in 2003). Logan’s total of 30 catches through three games this year is 25 shy of the school-record 55 receptions he tallied in 2004. The game was Logan’s fifth career game in which he has caught more than 100 yards in passes. The 151 yard effort is his career-best on the road, and was just 10 yards shy of his career high, set against Illinois State at Memorial Stadium in 2004.

Defensive

LB Kye Stewart, Illinois State
So., 6-11, 205, Nashville (Tenn.) Pearl-Cohn High
Kye Stewart was everywhere on the field for the Redbird defense on Saturday at Eastern Illinois. That’s why it was only fitting that he serve as the benefactor in Niall Campbell’s forced fumble. In the fourth quarter, Stewart sealed the Redbird victory and the defense’s dominance over the Panthers with a 42 yard fumble return for a touchdown. Stewart led the Redbirds with 11 tackles, all solo, as the ISU defense smothered the Panthers all night. EIU finished with only 10 first downs and 237 total yards, including 74 on the ground.

Special Teams

P Ryan Hoffman, Illinois State
Sr., 6-2, 195, Stevens Point (Wis.) Area
Hoffman, along with the Redbird defense, kept Eastern Illinois pinned on its half of the field all night. In seven punts, Hoffman averaged 42.4 yards per kick, including a 57 yard bomb. Hoffman finished the game with four punts inside EIU’s 20-yard line, including two inside the 10.
