Birds everywhere will be relieved they got rid of those "offensive" feathers. Jury still out on whether Sesame Street will be suing to make the letters "non-offensive" as well. xrolleyesx

Having gotten that off my chest, it looks pretty good. xthumbsupx

Well, they used to be the Indians, then the Tribe. They should probably change the mascot to Loosely Affiliated Group of Race-Ambiguous People to make sure no one is offended.

Hey, good for them. And they said taking the feather off would be hard to do. xlolx xlolx xlolx

But the part I like is that they finally got away from the color scheme with the yellow. It was just a blantant ripoff of Waste Management (a trash company) trucks - seriously, did they not vett the design when they came up with it. Now with the muted color outlining the W&M I like it a lot better.

Political correctness aside, because I sure as hell don't follow PC, I always thought Indians/Tribe was a pretty piss-poor nickname for a college named after a couple of British monarchs. Too bad Syracuse erroneously changed their name from Orangemen, because "Orange" would be the perfect nickname for W&M. After all, King William was from the House of Orange.

Had to laugh GF, because every time I see a Waste Management truck I think about Bill and Biatch. Funny stuff.

I like it, particularly since it's a move back towards some of the better-looking logos of the past.

For just about any other college, I would say it looks way too fancy for an athletic logo. On William and Mary, it works.

Looks pretty classy if you ask me. I don't entirely love it, but it's alright.

Having gone to college in North Dakota, I can appreciate the racial sensitivity thing to a pretty significant degree... but Tribe is so vague, and the feathers too were ambiguous. Yes, it was clearly connoting native people, but it was not derrogitory toward anyone, the images were clearly not the kind of Chief Wahoo stuff that is genuinely offensive... it probably should have been fine.

That said, I'm not that familiar with the situation, but I feel like this course of action was a bit overblown. I hadn't heard of any native american groups who were upset by this one.

Not in that font. The old way was OK when you really couldn't say if it were an M or a W, but with this one, there's no doubt. I've always loved W&M colors, logos and unis, but I really don't care for this one. xsmhx

I like the new logos. Especially the one in the crest. I didn't see in the article that one of these is going on the football helmet though.

I personally like the script Tribe on the green helmet with the stripes.

I liked the old green helmet with Tribe on it as well.

Objections are focused on the font, and the fact that this is really nothing new, and not very distinctive. The committee said they wanted to produce a unifying logo for the 30 odd existing ones, but all they did was produce #31. Alot of time and money wasted from my view. We went from a distinct, and recognizable feathered logo to an unattractive recycle that is overwhelmingly unpopular already. If you look at the helmet in my avatar, it's basically the same thing.

Since its founding, W&M has had an educational outreach to the local tribes, hence the nickname Indians until PC caught up with them.

This is fantastic news indeed! For with a fear of ampersands, thousands of Americans are unable to use pointers or references when programming in C or C++. This is good news indeed!
