SIU sets $83 million budget for stadium. arena upgrades

CARBONDALE — The Southern Illinois University Board of Trustees has authorized development of detailed plans for a new football stadium and renovations to SIU Arena, setting a budget of $83 million for the improvements, the school announced Thursday in a news release.

The school said the football facility replacing McAndrew Stadium is tentatively scheduled to open in August 2010, with the arena renovation to be completed in time for the 2010-11 men’s and women’s basketball seasons.

It was a long time coming. Jerry Kill was told when he took the job 7 years ago that he would have a new stadium within 5 years. Well now it is happening and ground will be broken next summer I believe and the stadium will be ready for the 2010 season.
