And, get this, they are showing Duke Vs. North Carolina on ESPNU at 3:30 PM instead of another FCS playoff game. How many people care about this game...it's great in basketball, but in football its ratings won't be a drop of pee in a bucket. They would have been better off showing App. State or Montana!

Since when does Duke get two (football) games on TV in a row?

North Carolina and Duke have football teams???

I guess I knew Duke did, after watching them fail to beat a Notre Dame team that wouldn't even be CLOSE to consideration in FCS playoffs. :)

But, man. So many great FCS football games I'd love to see, and this is the type of competitive crap they give us??

Just goes to show they have no respect nor care for FCS.

Didn't they use to put a lot more first round games on ESPN and ESPN2? Now it seems like they put most of the FCS games on ESPNU and 360.

Notre Dame v Stanford? Could there be a more irrelevant game broadcast?
Maybe Lou Holt could suit up and ND would have a chance...

I would rather watch lawn mover drag racing on "the Ocho".

Notre Dame-Stanford is about as intriguing as Duke-North Carolina.

No, they didn't. They didn't put any first round games on any ESPN station until 2004, and then there was only only 1 (Georgia Southern vs. New Hampshire). I don't think there have ever been more than 2 on an ESPN station.

Interesting blurb at the bottom regarding TV situation for the ASU-JMU game.

The sad truth is that Duke-North Carolina probably would get higher ratings than an FCS playoff game. Most fans of FBS teams consider FCS the equivalent of high-school football. Unfortunately, the sports-watching demographic is full of ignorant morons and ESPN, to their financial success, knows that.

And please don't forget that big "rivalry weak" game between Kansas State and Fresno State. Bitter rivals! No love lost between these two. You can throw out the records when they get together. xrolleyesx

I'd think it would be a safe bet that most, if not all, FCS playoff teams would beat Duke, UNC, Stanford and Notre Dame anyway.

Duke has a horrible football team with their only win this season to Northwestern (Big Ten). UNC has a mediocre to horrible football team as well, and played James Madison in their season opener in Chapel Hill and unfortunately won. But yeah, Carolina beating Duke would be like an average FCS team beating La Salle in football. Most could really care less.

The big Vagas casinos don't put a number up for FCS games.
FBS games, no matter how bad the teams, have money wagered.
If people have money on the game they'll watch.

Yep, what yorkcounty said...

UNC is a young but talented team. They beat Miami, who sucks this year, pretty badly, and they came within a few plays of beating both UVA and VT who play this weekend for the Coastal Division and rights to play in the ACC Championship game.

If I am a betting man, I put a lot of money on UNC Saturday and recoup all my traveling expenses for the playoffs.

Having said that, they did not really impress me too much in Chapel Hill. We got behind real quick with a couple big plays (both of JMUs starting corners were out for that game), and then it was a pretty even match for teh remaining 3 quarters, but you can't spot an BCS team 3 TDs and expect to have a chance. Historically, Mickey Matthews does not really coach these games anyway, he'd rather just take the check and go home healthy.

C'mon people UNI is getting A vote in the AP poll ;) Seriously you'd think they start noticing that FCS teams sometimes beat a FBS team...Even though I'm sure most accross Iowa would be happy to watch the UNI game a doubt there will be too many pissed they can't watch it.

When I show up on game day in Cedar Falls I still get asked why I'm back in town and people look confused when I say I'm here for the game....sad...

the unc game was a huge letdown. they had 2 long pass plays that went for td's early, and that completely took our strength out of it, pounding people w/ the run game. chapel hill was a hell of a time though, and we all had a good cheer when appy state won earlier that day.

and for every fcs fan out there, i can assure you that when jmu opens at duke next year we'll put a horrific beating on them for taking the 3:30 espnu timeslot. A HORRIFIC BEATING!!!

not to look past our impending playoff clash w/ the boys in boone, but having landers, eugene the dream, yancey, the o-line, mc and the rock all coming back on offense, we'll be diesel next year.
