I read a few weeks back about some proposal to expand the playoffs to 18 teams.

Is this a done deal for next year or is it just someone's proposal?

They already said it won't happen for '08, the '09 season is when it may start.

good thing it didn't happen this year. Might have been 8-9 CAA teams in! xeekx xnonono2x xeekx

I was against it but some of these auto bids from some of these weaker conferences are keeping better teams out. So if we keep the auto bids I am for expansion if not then NO!

Do you have a link for that statement?

I have heard that it is more likely for the '09 season, but that it MAY still happen next year. And for all you anti-expansion folks, the only reason I heard it may be pushed to '09 is because of logistics.xthumbsupx

It is more likely to expand to 24 if it expands at all.

I have read through many threads, and GSU has an argument about UNH being selected over them, but the fact still remains you know the rules before you make your schedule and yours just bit you in the ass a bit (D2 win and IA loss to close the season). It sucks. We've all been there before. Some of us more often than others (Wofford, JMU and YSU come to mind...)

Expand it to 24 teams and give the top 4 seeds a "bye" in the first week.

Hypothetically the field this year could have been (still taking into account regionalization):

Play-in Games:
Albany @ UNH
Norfolk State @ Fordham
(or really any combination of the two games or with 'Nova instead of Albany/Norfolk St)

1st Round:
Delaware St. (10-1) at Delaware (8-3)

Play-in Game Winner at Massachusetts (9-2)

James Madison (8-3) at Appalachian St. (9-2)

Play-in Game Winner at No. 1 UNI (11-0)

Eastern Ill. (8-3) at No. 4 Southern Ill. (10-1)

Eastern Wash. (8-3) at No. 2 McNeese St. (11-0)

Wofford (8-3) at No. 3 Montana (11-0)

Eastern Ky. (9-2) at Richmond (9-2)

NCAA news on the Budget request for expansion, this past October. Decision won't be until at least next spring.

With a field of 24, 8 teams would get a "bye" in round 1.

Anyone have a link from the NCAA discussing possible 1AA playoff expansion?

Why don't we follow the National Hockey League's formula and let everyone in. We could have the championship game on April Fools Day. Attendance at regular season games would approach zero.

It would only require 3 more weeks of playoffs. But seeding the games would be a real pain... :D

THIS will NEVER happen. AD's in the vast majority of teams from the AQ conferences want a 12th regular season game so they can go schedule paydays from BSC schools. Not more free money losing playoff games.

What team that's not in the field right now has an honest shot at winning the title, if it was included? My guess is zero. xreadx

I don't think the AD's don't make the decision.
