What do you see as the specific strengths & weaknesses of your team?

UR is better against the run often having 3 men meet the ball at the line of scrimmage, even if it is outside, as long as it isn't a quick hitter up the middle. On pass defense, we bring more pressure if your QB is a running threat. Beyond that we look more for containment, no long completions and no RAC. Despite last weekend, I'm not convinced we can consistently take the ball away.

On offense, we are run oriented with 3 backs who have different styles (Hightower breaks tackles and reads holes[so he starts further from the line], Vaughn eludes them, Forte is the smallest and fastest)
Our 2 biggest deep pass threats are injured but our young receivers are quickly improving in the 10-15 yd pass range. Actually we seem to try and establish this early to spread the field a little for the running game.

When they aren't injured both our punt and KO returners were leading the nation (but keep dipping below the minimum requirement)

How's that for a scouting report? I'd like to find out more what to expect, particularly from possible playoff teams. xcoffeex

McNeese strengths:
Team speed
Balance (200-plus yards rushing and passing a game, first in league in rush defense, first in league in pass efficiency defense)
Experience
Physicality (improved O-line, league leader in sacks)
Kicking game

Weaknesses
Injuries, lost leading rusher and leading returning receiver (Payton Award candidate) for season
Lack of close games, nobody has challenged them so far

To expound on what McBeat wrote about balance: McNeese is loaded and deep at the skill positions even though they've had the two big injuries. The Cowboys have at least four receivers that are game breakers. They have two big power back types and two game breaker speed back types. They are two deep at quality quarterback. Their starting tight end is a good athlete and receiver. Same can be said of their starting fullback. Going into a game thinking in terms of taking X away and forcing McNeese to do Y because they don't do Y well does not appear to be a viable strategy.

On the speed thing...maybe some McNeese person who's a lot more computer savvy than I am can post the long play on a swing pass by receiver Quinten Lawrence against Southeastern. If you see that play you'll see an example of what we've been talking about. If you see this play, bear in mind that Central Arkansas coach Clint Conque said that his team had problems with Southeastern's speed on defense...indicating that it was something that his team was surprised by.

McNeese is also very fast on defense with a lot of athletes. A very disruptive defense. They've gotten very good pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

Weakness

Though McNeese is ranked 6th in FCS scoring defense people have moved the ball on the Cowboys and the ability of opposing teams to run right at McNeese is a concern. McNeese is 44th in total defense and, notably, 39th in rushing defense. And my opinion is that some teams have fared pretty well running the ball inside. Amos Allen of South Dakota, for example, rushed for 176 yards on 24 carries against McNeese. My recollection is that most of it was on that zone stretch type of play with kind of a draw action and Allen found gaps on the inside.

Strengths:

O-line - possibly the best in FCS football
Versatility - we can do the power run game or the controlled passing game. Everything's clicking right now
Linebacker depth - We're 2 deep at all four LB position

Weaknesses:

DL - they're getting better, but they're not as strong as last year. We can negate that by blitzing a linebacker or putting our OLB down as DE.
Starting slow and getting behind early. In two of our three losses, we got down quick. We came back in one of em, but to Elon we never could come back. Man I'd love to have that game again now that we're playing better offensively.

Right now Southern's main weakness is injuries and lack of depth on the O-Line. Although the line play is better than the past two years they are very thin and young at that position. It doesn't help that the first bye of the season was last week. The secondary is prone to giving up a big pass or two especially early in the game. As a whole the major weakness of the team is slow starts in the first half. The the main factor in the two losses is slow starts.
The strengths are the play of the front 7 and the running back Darren Coates. As a whole the offense has been better than the last two years but they're still searching for consistency. As a whole I'm satisfied with the effort the team has shown especially in the second half of games only allowing 48 points and scoring 92 points. This season has been an improvement over the last two losing seasons.

Strength -

1. FB Joe Casey.
2. WR Shaun Leonard.

Weakness -

1. Defense, to include our DC.
2. Tim Stowers and his HORRIBLE play calling.
3. Staying in a conference that we cannot compete in.

Strengths: Unstoppable passing offense. A team hasn't really shutdown our passing offense in four years, with the slight exception of our last two playoff losses :(. We also have a pretty good "bend but don't break" defense, even if the statistics don't indicate such. If our defense can hold you to a FG, we're pretty excited. Additionally, we have good special teams when we're receiving the ball, whether it be via Boyle, LeVan or Kackert. Also, UNH is deep with experienced, albeit young, players at most positions, including WR, OL, RB and DL.

Weaknesses: UNH does not tackle well, does not play press coverage and does not stop the run particularly well, either. They do not run the ball as well as they should, in light of the quality of their personal. They do not defend special teams particularly well.

I will not repeat what McBeat and John said but IMO there are two other major strengths of the McNeese program which are:

Outstanding Team Chemistry

Young motivating coaching staff that has the team focused and ready each week. The adjustments being made during the game on both sides of the ball by the staff to react to the opponents stength have been very impressive.

UNI:

Strengths:
Eric Sanders-one cool cookie who just finds ways to win (11 career 4th quarter comebacks)
Offensive line: 6'4" 314lb average, experienced, cohesive.
Balanced attack between run and throw (though don't tell Western Illinois that)
Solid, opportunistic Defense: Have given up some yards, but very few "big" plays and force a fair share of turnovers. 13ppg given up hasn't been against the creampuffs (we haven't played them yet)
Poise: As a team have just gone about their business all year. Sometimes do not appear all that exciting, just efficient. Despite not scoring for three quarters against YSU, no one was pointing fingers or panicking, just kept adjusting until we broke through.
Not quite willing to Special Teams as a strength, but we have been improving all year. Yet to break a big return of our own.

Weaknesses:
We're not the fastest team but there is sufficient speed and they work well within the system. LB's have above average speed, and safeties are good when healthy. We have not shown the ability to separate for deep passes, but the threat is there.
We've been dinged up, QB, RB, DB's all have been playing hurt. Hopefully we can get a chance to get into the 2nd and 3rd strings against Indiana State and Southern Utah.
Playcalling-Have had a tendency in the past to get too conservative with a lead or lack flexibility in our approach if plan A isn't working. Have shown flexibility some this year, but SIU should not have had a chance to get back in the game if would have stayed with the offense from the 1st 3 quarters of that game rather than being protective.
