Looks like it may turn out to be a pretty close ballgame looking at the stats. Liberty runs a very balanced offense. CSU gets Jonna Lee back at LB this week so that should shore up the LB corp considerably. Look forward to meeting a few Flame fans and seeing a good ballgame.

Charleston Southern has played four games against Division I opponents. In those four games, here is the yardage they gave up:

Rushing Passing Total
40 26 66 - Savannah St
147 363 510 - Hawaii
317 131 448 - Wofford
173 246 419 - The Citadel

That brings us to an average of 169 yards rushing and 191 yards passing a game that they're giving up. To me, that first number (169 rushing) looks very good for Rashad and Zach.

Here is the yardage they have gained against Division I opponents:

Rushing Passing Total
272 182 454 - Savannah St
72 239 311 - Hawaii
38 293 331 - Wofford
24 137 161 - The Citadel

That brings Chuck South to an average of 101 yards rushing per game (two games of less than 50 yds) and 212 yards passing per game. Against teams not named Savannah St (their version of St. Francis), they have yet to rush for over 75 yards.

Their yardage numbers passing wise are very good. No one can or will deny that. However, their percentages are not.

Att Comp TD Int Comp %
14 26 1 1 53
19 41 1 3 46
31 52 2 5 59
11 27 1 1 40

What does this show us? They are completing 51% of their passes and two interceptions for every touchdown they throw.

Their starting quarterback is their best player. He got dinged up against Savannah St, and they couldn't move the ball after that.

We have played Charleston Southern for the last 14 years. Over those years, we are 12-2 overall against them. The two losses came in 2000 (25-0 at home) and 2005 (31-30, in Charleston). Here are the scores from our games against CSU.

LU CSU Location
42 6 LU
59 27 LU
19 15 CSU
37 7 LU
48 14 CSU
28 21 LU
34 14 CSU
0 25 LU
45 31 CSU
31 17 LU
17 6 CSU
34 6 LU
30 31 CSU
34 20 LU

The average score in our series vs CSU is 32-17 in favor of Liberty.

The average score for games in Charleston is 32-18.

Charleston Southern is averaging roughly 2600 people for their home games this year.

Super Jon, you sure do you home work. This is a good match up. This game is always an exciting one to listen to. With home field advantage and coming off a by week, I like CSU's chances! Let's Go Bucs!

You realize we're coming off a bye-week and pissed off because we threw away a win over an FBS team, right?

That brings us to an average of 143 yards rushing and 296 yards passing a game that they're giving up. Liberty is intercepting one ball a game and giving up two touchdowns per game through the air.

Here is the yardage they have gained against Division I opponents:

Rushing Passing Total

That brings Liberty to an average of 204 yards rushing per game (two games of more than 150 yds) and 193.5 yards passing per game. The Flames have had 3 games over over 300 yards offense.

Passing percentages by game:

25 37 2 1 67

The 169 average should go down drastically now that Jonna Lee is back at LB. Also, CJ has been out in the secondary for 2 games and should be back this week. Several others that have missed a game or two will be back and healthy on defense this week.

31 ... but I'm not averse to checking out college-type places ... went to some English pub downtown the last time I went down there and cleaned up in darts.

If you like the college scene just go downtown. Bars are everywhere down there off King Street. Catfish can be more specific since he still frequents those places. I have become old and domesticated in my old age and rarely go anywhere except to work and football games.

I'm looking forward to the game. The family and I are coming up Friday evening and staying through till Monday morning.

I think this game will see a much improved CSU. I was dissapointed with their first game verses Citadel. They have improved a lot since then.

Liberty may be our biggest challenge in the Big South this year.
