Is anybody bored enough to want to compile a list of teams from the last 10 years or so that were left out with 8 Div I wins? If not I may try myself late this week.

But would love to find someone else who wants to do the leg work. xwhistlex

Here's a list of FCS teams with 8 or more wins that don't appear to have made the playoffs over the last ten years. I didn't try to weed out the teams who opt out of the playoffs or who weren't eligible for some reason. I gave it a try but realized my FCS knowledge isn't up to the task.

Albany probably doesn't belong in for 2002 because the 8th win came in the ECAC game against Duquense, which, correct me if I'm wrong, came after playoff selections.

You can scratch the 2001 and 2002 EKU squads from that list. Some of their 8 wins were not over D-I teams.

You mean Montana hasn't missed the playoffs in all those years? ;) ;) ;)

They also changed the rules for eligibility a couple of years ago. The "7 D-I wins" rule used to be "No more than 3 losses", I think.

There was no official rule before. It was just an unwritten assumption of how it worked.

Thanks, that's a great start. I'd still need to look at some of the schedules, but offhand I'd say these may be the biggest surprises:

1997 Bucknell 10 1 0
1997 Eastern Illinois 8 3 0
1997 Northeastern 8 3 0
1998 Hofstra 8 3 0
1999 Southern Utah 8 3 0
1999 Portland State 8 3 0
1999 Northern Iowa 8 3 0
2000 Tennessee Tech 8 3 0
2001 Youngstown State 8 3 0
2001 Tennessee State 8 3 0
2001 Rhode Island 8 3 0
2001 Villanova 8 3 0
2002 Idaho State 8 3 0
2002 Wofford 9 3 0
2002 Colgate 9 3 0
2003 Lehigh 8 3 0
2003 Fordham 9 3 0
2004 Wofford 8 3 0
2005 Youngstown State 8 3 0
2005 Lehigh 8 3 0

I still believe this year may have another team that there won't be room for in the playoffs, with some chance of it being a 9-2 team from a conference that routinely receives at-large bids.

Right. And if/when the playoffs expand, those power conferences with 8 and 9 wins teams will benifit not the NEC, PFL or MAAC(lol) teams.

You can bet there will likely be SEVERAL new teams added to the "most unexpected list" this year. Seems like a lotta teams are gonna be scattered around up near the top.
