Well, we all knew SHSU would be fighting for it's postseason life this early in the season due to the two sub-Div I games, but very good read nonetheless as the Huntsville Item's Bearkat beat writer tries to figure out what the Bearkats can rally around, which team will show up each week and more...

Clock ticking on saving Bearkats' season

It seems that clouds have started to form around the field house at Sam Houston State. Lost in the shuffle of what is quickly becoming a season of disappointment are the memories of what was supposed to be the resurrection of a football program to the top of the Southland Conference.

Wasn’t it only a few short weeks ago when all the talk was about winning a conference championship? Now, those rumbles have turned to whispers, replaced by doubt, second-guessing and head-hunting following the Bearkats’ 35-14 loss to Central Arkansas at Bowers Stadium last weekend.

Yes, this season isn’t turning out the way most envisioned back when the Bearkats reported to camp in August. Who would have thought SHSU would be 2-3 overall, 0-1 in the SLC, and already fighting for its postseason life one game into October?
