OK, now that we are a little past midway of regular season, let's talk about what players are in running for players of year.

Defensive: Corey Lynch, App ST.
Seth Goldwire, Wofford
Rowell, Citadel
Who else?

Offensive: Armanti Edwards?
D. Lawson, Citadel?
J. Collier, Woffy
S. Riddle, Elon
J. Foster, Ga South

Any thoughts?

Offensively Edwards has played a game and a half, so no...

Riddle has been a pleasant surprise for Elon and is no doubt FR of the year...

Dawson was shut down yesterday...

Which leaves Foster, who was the POTM for SEPT and is the MVP of the conference thus far unless you want to recognize the Wofford o-line en masse- they've had a great year. I can't imagine what kind of trouble GSU would be in w/o Foster.

Defensively the Wofford kid hands down.

I agree. Foster is a unanimous selection at this point. Goldwire definitely stands out on the defensive side.

I would also add Terrel Hudgins of Elon to that list.....5 games 631 yards receiving 8 TDs.

Those are my picks too. Foster OPOY, Lynch DPOY, Riddle FPOY.

Speaking of, are redshirt freshmen up to win Freshman player of the year? If so, Hearns is going to be up there too.

I agree with the consensus. Jayson Foster for offensive POY, and I'll call defensive POY a tie between Corey Lynch and Seth Goldwire. Riddle should win Freshmen POY.

He definitely has the inside track right now. But we have all overlooked the other offensive weapon that the Apps possess in Kevin Richardson. He would have a lot of work to do to over take Foster but he is more than capable of doing just that down the stretch to get the OPOY award. He at the very least needs to be in the conversation.

Jayson Foster isn't the best "true" QB at Georgia Southern. Billy Lowe and Lee Chapple are much better as far as throwing power and throwing accuracy go.

But Jayson can throw much better than you think. We watched it Saturday as he all but two passes right on. He threw a few 20+ yard passes that were right on the money. He had a PERFECT game a couple of weeks ago, completing ALL of his passes with NO interceptions.

What logic are you using? Pat White isn't the best QB in the Big East. Brian Brohm is without a doubt. Yet, Pat White is a Heisman candidate.

And then there is Tim Tebow. Matt Stafford has a much, much better arm but who is putting up bigger numbers???

Foster, like White and Tebow are major offensive threats not because of how well they can throw but because of how well they can throw, scramble and lead their teams to victory.

With that said, Jayson Foster is the most potent offensive threat in the SoCon. Nobody else in the conference causes opposing teams to plan around them as much as Foster. Nobody else has the numbers. And nobody else could play QB, RB, and WR and put up the numbers Foster can.

I hope your coaches think like you do. Just about anyone can throw further than 20 yards. I bet our O-line can throw for more than 20 yards. For what it's worth, Foster threw a couple for more than 20 yards AND was right on the money. We have barely started to open up the play book as well. Each game, Foster starts going deeper and deeper and has been nearly flawless.

Does anbody know if he's improved his passing since then? He was terrible at throwing the ball then, but he obviously didn't need to be that good with that offense. Could definitely run back then, can obviously still run, but has he learned to pass more then 10 yards without bouncing the ball?

Foster's passing stats through 5 games:

comp-att-i pct yds td long per game
62-85-4 72.9 674 3 81 134.8

...and 882 yards and 14 TD's rushing.

You can see tangible improvement in Foster's passing game as a result of working with Coach Hatcher. It is night/day from 2005 or even from the first of the season. It is too bad Hatcher can't coach him another year, that would be fun to see.
