When do the Walter Payton candidates get updated? There are some players on the list that don't look deserving to be there now.

It's just a watch list, not a formal ballot of candidates. But it gets updated sometime in October and once more in November right before the votes are expected. As with every year, there is quite a bit of movement with taking people off the list and adding people on. There will be some big changes, I think, with the next revision.

Who would you add at this point, and who would you remove?

Gotta find some way to get Hightower (Richmond) and Foster (Georgia Southern) on there - both are having sick seasons right now. Certainly take off Schaeffer, and maybe take off Drone.

I was thinking this kid should get added:

Cal Poly's 6'6" 235 lb Jr WR Ramses Barden

2007 season (5 games)

29 recptions
751 yards
8 TDs
25.9 yards per/recption
150.2 average yards per game

Those are great numbers for a WR. xeekx

How about Mike McLeod (RB) from Yale?

3 games played:

102 rushes for 564 yds and 12 rushing TDs.
Avg. of 5.5 yds/carry and 188 yds/game.

Agree completely!

Barden is a load, and stud of the first order!

There hasta' be some Grizo genes in there somewhere!

Josh Johnson would be the front runner for the first quarter of the season!
If you want to argue i would advise you to do some reasearch first!
He is a legit first day pro prospect and will be the highest drafted player in the fcs this year, you heard it here first!

I agree with you, but I think that we heard it from Jim Harbaugh first.xsmiley_wix

I bet you Harbaugh wishes he had Johnson up at Stanford now.

No matter how good Johnson's numbers are he won't win the Payton award. Just too much bias against non-scholly teams, justified or not.

I agree, I never said the bias wasn't justified.

Rodney Landers....JMU QB will likely be added to the list.

77 carries, 439 yards, 6 TDs, 5.7 avg.

70-99 (71%), 927 yards, 6 TDs, 2 INTs (both ints @ UNC week 1)

These come in 5 games... @ UNC, UNH, VMI, Coastal, Villanova. In the VMI and Coastal games Landers only played 3 quarters.

Nick Hill of SIU
78-110 (71%), 1060 yards, 13 TDs, 0 INTs
The only game out of five Hill has been on the field in the fourth quarter was the NIU game. He was sitting by halftime last Saturday.
