After going 9 for 13 against CCU (3 of those incompletetions were dropped passes) and rushing for 129 yards against Nova he throws for 300 and rushes for 70. Landers 25 for 32, despite about 3 drops and no LC Baker (top receiver) from late in the 2nd quarter on due to his hamstring injury. HOLY ACCURACY! xbowx xeekx Literally everything short and mid range was right on the money. I'd never thought I'd say this, but he's AT LEAST as accurate as Rascati and a better runner. JMU coach Mickey Matthews said in the post game that he thought Landers was the best player in the country (I know, that's MM being MM) but Landers should start getting some consideration as a Payton candidate, at least if he keeps playing this way. JMU puts up 507 yds offense against Nova, and hold Nova to 201 (53 of that was on Nova's late 4th quarter drive with their starters against JMU's backups after JMU was up 35-0) JMU just DOMINATED offensively and defensively.
If other opponents want to stack the line like Nova did, then Landers can just kill them with the pass. With Holloman out and JMU's running back by committee, JMU is showing that they'll be more balanced, and just as hard to stop. Little LC with his 4.3 speed and 3 big 6'2''-6'3", 210-215 wideouts that can run
And Nova had won 7 straight against I-AA and only lost to Maryland 31-17. I'm just hoping JMU takes care of business against Northestern & URI, then has their bye week before their big showdown with UR and bigger with Delaware (I hope that game is an 8-0 UD vs a 7-1 JMU for a shot at the CAA title and #1 seed).

That was an impressive win over a good team. Some major headbanging up ahead in the CAA..

Never really expected Nova to win,but they were flat out bad today. I might give half a pass to a young, banged up D...but the O?xconfusedx

I hadn't thought untill today just how much I miss Burroughs.

I forgot to mention I think Cussain (6'5" 225 redshirt soph) might be the best receiving tight end (or at least will turn out to be) that I've seen at JMU. He only caught 2 TD passes yesterday.

JMU is impressive.. I'd rank them above UMass.. but whether Nova is a 'good' team.. has yet to be determined.

I was surprised by the margin of victory because Nova seemed to be at least good this year. That said, I did not see the game.... Impressive win for JMU!

Sorry you're confused. Let me help clear things up. xsmiley_wix

Nova wasn't bad, they were simply dominated by a faster, stronger team with too many offensive options for Nova to handle. Obviously Talley decided he was going to stack the box on D and try and take away JMU's run, and for his effort JMU not only ran anyway, but the Duke's QB and mass of WRs just flat out torched the Wildcats thru the air.

Nova will still make some noise this year, but yesterday Rodney Landers let it be known he can throw the dang ball. xthumbsupx

The scary part is, this is a major rebuilding year for JMU's offense, especially with our top running back out for the season. We return all 11 current offensive starters in 2008, plus we will have Holloman back. Next year's offense should be night and day better than this year's.

I've been saying 10 starters back on offense (LC is a senior but Holloman assuming he gets the medical redshirt) plus 17 on offense. Before the season I was just hoping JMU made the playoffs this yr and would contend for the title this yr. Now I think contending for the title this season is at least a possibility, with playoffs highly likely, and very good chance at a playoff win or 2, only thing derailing that either Landers going down or several starters to serious injury.

Not confused at all....I expected the D to have a tough time. They are young & plagued by injuries. I'm wondering where our O was. Young CAN throw a good ball, and he's very athletic. He just makes some bad decisions.

Notes From JMU-Villanova
Landers was 25-32 despite 3-4 dropped passes, 2 from Rockeed Scissorhands McCarter.

“I’ve heard of Irishing up your coffee,” the always-outspoken Baranowsky said. “But still, how many sickos are there out there tailgating at 7 a.m. It would have been great to see, but it's tough to find that many diehards.”

Well, I was out there about 7:30 with a buddy of mine.

Hope LC heals soon. Without him JMU is really down to 3 quality receivers:
