From the CSN article on playoff expansion...

Ms. Viverito, however, made it clear that one of those conferences would not be the Pioneer Football League. "We are a non-scholarship football league," she said, "and we want our own postseason opportunity separate from scholarship teams. Although if a non-scholarship team was invited to the playoffs as an at-large team, they could accept that invitation."

Nothing changes for the PFL with this one -- though maybe with playoff expansion, this would be reason for the PFL teams to step up scheduling in an effort to try to get an at-large...

Non-schollies should be considered a separate division. While occasionally a few could be competitive, the lack of scholarships puts them at too much of a disadvantage in recruiting.

How about we just get rid of Ms. Viveritoxthumbsupx She doesn't care about the future of the PFL. Maybe the NEC commisioner can do double duty and take over the PFl responsiblities as well. He seems to have the vision and drive needed to take a conference some where.

Psst...the schools tell the commissioner what to do and where to take the conference...it just isn't one person (i.e. the commissioner) who has determined the posture of the PFL, it's the individual schools and their Presidents. xreadx

And a darn good one, at that. Brenda Weare has done a tremendous job the past few years in pushing forth a new agenda and higher goals for the NEC.

Here's my question though, did the presidents really tell her to avoid the playoffs? Would playing in the playoffs really have an effect?.....these presidents want non-scholly football playoffs or no playoffs.....being an AQ league doesn't really effect the bottom line

If she wasn't doing what they want, she wouldn't be the commissioner. She has no power whatsoever other than that that which the university Presidents cede to her. If they were in disagreement with her public statements about the playoffs then she would either change her comments or she wouldn't be there anymore. Of course, it's easier as a fan to direct your vitriol towards a single figure than it is all those different Presidents/Chancellors.

Wrongo!!!! To say a leader has no power is perhaps one of the dumbest things I have ever heard.... Patty Viverito absolutely sets the tone for the PFL. Granted, the individual schools involved have not yet seen fit to change direction, but that does not mean that Patty V. is not steering the ship.
