Its gonna take ASU to win out and Wofford to lose twice for us to finish first...

is Gardner Webb really the top team in the big south? if so homecoming may not be quite the breeze i was hoping for

Gateway thru 4 weeks:

1. UNI (domination of 4 opponents, including BCS Iowa State)
2. SIU (4-0 with a nice come-from-behind at Northern Illinois)

3. YSU (traditional power, close call with a talented SDSU team and a couple wins over cupcakes to start the season. History puts them at the top of this group...for now.)
4. Western Illinois (wins over SFA and SDSU aren't a bad start; competitive with Illini)
5. Missouri State (Terry Allen can coach at this level and has some freshmen stepping it up. We'll know a lot more about #3 and #5 after next weekend's matchup...)

6. Illinois State (tough to judge, loses to Drake to start the season, rolls two OVC opponents, puts up almost 400 yards at Mizzou...)

7. Indiana State...xnonono2x

Conference games are always tough in the Gateway, but this looks to be a two-horse race out of the Gate.xcoffeex

This is how I see the GWFC after four weeks:

1) NDSU - Returning GWFC champions. It is theirs to lose
2-4) Cal Poly, SDSU and UC Davis are fighting for second with an outside chance to challenge NDSU.
5) SUU - Brings up the rear again this year.

I would think Gardner Webb is the top team, looking at the statistics ( conference only) here is how they rank

1. Passing Offense
1. In total offense
1. Total defense
1. Scoring Defense
1. passing Defense
1. in sacks
2nd in rushing defense
3rd in rushing offense

And that is after playing two FBS ( Div 1 teams). Those scores although losing, were respectable ohio 14-36 mississippi state 15-31 .

Sorry, but I have a hard time seeing Furman getting third at this point, and I really don't think we will be next to the last in the Socon, either.
