UTM is playing horribly. Couple of penalties, turnovers. Just not playing together. Last drive was a really good set of plays. Just turning it on too late.

after just leaving for the 1st half to come back down and get ready for a post game show...

UCA ios dominating every single aspect of this football game through the first half. Our line was getting pressure on just a 3 or 4 man rush when they passed. Our O-line is giving our QB plenty of time. Nathan Brown is 13-13 in the 1st half for 179 yards and 2 TDs, and he hasnt been hit yet when throwing the football, and has hit 8 different 8 receivers already. I'm not sure why UTM did not try to run the football in the first part of the game, but we'll take it.

All that being said, we have not been very good in the 3rd quarter, and with that last 4th down and inches punch in by UTM, the Bears still have some things to prove to come out with a win tonight.

That's a first hand look at the first half...

Hey UTM,

You're #6 receiver was phenomenal! That guy can catch nearly anything in his time zone! Great game tonight but it looked like you were overmatched until the second half when the backups hit the field and you moved the ball with ease on us. Good luck with the rest of the year! Your fans are a class act and I Enjoyed the first home game and victory! xthumbsupx

#6 is Roren Thomas. In the past he hasn't been used a whole lot. Last year he had 2 rushing attempts for 49 yds and 2 catches for 73 yds with 1 td. He's only a sophmore so we are hoping for big things from him.

I am also impressed with #16, E.J. Daniel. Last year he was named to the OVC All-Newcomer team and had a couple of impressive touches in this game. Now if we can find some D we can compete!

DEFENSIVE WOES CONTINUE TO HURT SKYHAWKS AT CENTRAL ARKANSAS

CONWAY, Ark. --- For the second consecutive week the University of Tennessee at Martin had trouble stopping an opponent. Central Arkansas' Brent Grimes rushed for 92 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries to lead the host Bears to a 48-34 victory over the Skyhawks Saturday night.

Nathan Brown completed 20-of-23 passes, including 14 consecutive passes, for 250 yards and two touchdowns.

Jarrod Dale picked off two passes and piled up 122 return yards and a touchdown. Dale's 96-yard interception return with 6:39 remaining in the game sealed the Bears' victory.

The Skyhawks defensive woes were visible early as Central Arkansas scored twice in the first quarter and added two more touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 27-6 lead a the intermission.

The Skyhawks won the battle in the third quarter, out scoring UCA 14-7. EJ Daniel caught two touchdown passes in the quarter. He caught one for 3 yards and a score and the other for 16 yards and paydirt. However, UCA led at the end of the third quarter 34-20.

Don Chapman opened the fourth quarter with a 58 yard run for a touchdown. The long carry helped Chapman, a 5-10, 215-pound tailback from Marrietta, Ga., set a new career record for most yards rushing.

Chapman entered the game 11 yards shy of breaking Bobby Fowler's mark of 4,033. Fowler played for UT Martin from 1956-59.

Chapman finished the game with 104 yards and the touchdown on 13 carries. The 100-yard effort marked the 19th time in Chapman's career that he has rushed for more than 100 yards in a game.

Despite 480 yards of total offense, penalties also proved costly for the Skyhawks who were flagged seven times for 72 yards. Four of the seven penalties came on one drive in the fourth quarter.

The University of Central Arkansas Bears put up a season-high 48 points on their brand new scoreboard Saturday in a 48-34 victory over Tennessee-Martin in their home opener at the newly christened First Security Field at Estes Stadium.

Junior quarterback Nathan Brown broke out of a minor slump and tied a school record by completing his first 14 consecutive passes to lead the Bears to the 15-point victory before an enthusiastic crowd of 10,837. The Bears’ highlights played regularly on the new 30-by-17 foot videoboard in the south end zone of the stadium.

The Bears (1-2) jumped out to a 27-0 lead late in the second quarter, with sophomore tailback Brent Grimes scoring two of his four rushing touchdowns, both from 1 yard out. Brown also hit sophomore Preston Echols with a 26-yard touchdown pass and redshirt freshman Willie Landers with a 49-yarder.

The Skyhawks found the end zone just before halftime on Marcus Dawson’s 1-yard run with 40 seconds left for a 27-6 halftime deficit.UTM closed the gap to 27-13 on their first possession of the second half but Grimes answered again with his third touchdown, a 4-yarder. James Paul’s point-after made it 34-13 midway through the third quarter.

But the Skyhawks, who rallied for 24 points in the fourth quarter last week in a loss to Missouri State, scored consecutive touchdowns on an 18-yard pass from Dexter Anoka to E.J. Daniel and a 58-yard run by tailback Don Chapman, making it 34-27 early in the fourth quarter.

Grimes reached the end zone again, capping an eight-play, 55-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run with 10:26 remaining, good for a 41-27 UCA lead. Martin drove deep into UCA territory before sophomore safety Jarrod Dale intercepted Anoka’s pass at the 4 and went 96 yards for the touchdown, the second-longest interception return in school history. Charles Strong had a 100-yard return back in 1980.

That gave the Bears a more comfortable cushion at 48-27 before the Skyhawks added a late touchdown on Trace McDermott’s 3-yard run to set the final.

Brown completed 20 of 23 passes for the game, for 250 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His 83 percent completion rate was the third best in school history. Grimes’ four touchdowns was a career high and tied him for second-most ever. Dale grabbed another interception and finished with a school-record 122 yards in returns.

The Bears tallied 416 yards of total offense, with Grimes leading the way on the ground with 86 yards on 22 carries. Echols led the receiving corps with five catches for 77 yards.

UTM finished with 480 yards of offense, with Chapman rushing for 104 yards to become the Skyhawks career rushing leader. Daniel caught eight passes for 151 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Anoka completed 17 of 31 passes for 219 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Bears travel to Springfield, Mo., next week to take on Missouri State. Game time is 6 p.m.
