The heat will be a major issue here. Unless you are starting the game at 3 am you can count on it being over 100 for the entire game. It doesnt cool off at night here in the summer like most people think. I came from Montana and nothing prepares you for the heat you feel down here. 100 in MT is actually more compfortable than 100 down here. a couple weeks ago it was 114 with surprisingly high humididty at 630 at night.

Heat will be a huge issue and I'm sorry but that is something we (Montana) cant prepare for. (unless they are willing to light Washington grizzly on fire and practice inside of it.

I'm not saying one team will win over another as the game is a year away, but believe me the heat will play a major role against Montana in this game.

Actually, a typical desert will cool down significantly during the night, sometimes below freezing in places like the Sahara. While I know this isn't the case in Nevada, it definitely is true for other deserts. You can thank me when you're in Egypt and you brought that bodysuit :D

We were all hoping that with the end of the mandate that forced each SWAC school to play each other, that we would see some attractive games between the SWAC and other conferences. We've got a few SWAC teams lined up against SLC foes and now this, glad to see the SWAC taking care of business. Hope all schools commit to a real four game OOC slate because what is good for FCS is good for the SWAC...

Better competition will only make the SWAC better...

O'Day: neutral site games a real possibility down the road
Posted on September 12, 2007 by Colin O'Keefe

I've ranted about this more than enough. The Griz football teams needs to schedule games against strong opponents in their non-conference schedule; not just to better the program, but the entire FCS. University of Montana athletic director Jim O'Day explained that there are so many things getting in the way of such games. The travel, the guaranteed money each team wants, the challenge of planning out games in following years, etc. Turns out there may be a smoother way to manage this stuff.

Upon hearing a rumor that UM may be playing Grambling State down in Vegas, I decided to email Jim again. The response wasn't what I was hoping for but it could've been worse.

[The Grambling game] was a possibility earlier, but doubtful at this time due to scheduling conflicts. Maybe down the road something like this will happen.

This idea, with promoters pushing it and guarantees for both teams at a neutral site, could be a real positive for our division down the road. It would allow some interesting cross-country rivalries to take place.

....know anything about this?

LAS VEGAS CLASSIC
Two of the most prominent teams in FCS were finalizing discussions this week for opening the season next year against each other. Montana and Grambling would play in the Las Vegas Classic on Aug. 30, 2008.

Both Montana and Grambling have been criticized in recent years for scheduling.

Critics of Montana have complained about the Grizzlies being unwilling to leave the friendly confines of Washington-Grizzly Stadium for non-conference contests, canceling return games on the road with several opponents and playing too many squads like Fort Lewis, last weekend's foe.

Grambling, like several other SWAC schools, has taken hits for its lack of competition in non-conference games.

But with a 12th game available to teams next season, Montana and Grambling have a chance to play exactly the type of game that their critics want to see. Games like this one, that match teams with strong traditions and from different regions of the country, are a great addition to FCS.

If Montana is playing at Hawaii -- does this mean they could schedule 13 games next year due to teams being allowed 12 games? Seems like that would be very profitable for the Grizzlies who pack'em into Wash-Griz..
