I'm just a tease. According to the Des Moines newspaper, it won't happen for several hours. 2:30 to be exact.

The Hayden Fry rumor is still going strong. A Hall of Fame guy wouldn't be bad for little old Drake.

Hayden Fry? Seriously? What's he, 85?

Personally, I think that rolling out a 78 year old man to coach would be a terrible decision.

Give me a young assistant with NFL experience who is itching to coach..

78. Younger than Gagliardi or Paterno. Within a few months of Bobby Bowden.

Lets just hope it isn't someone from a school already.

No need for yet another head coaching search this late in the season.

Thank GOD. Hiring Fry would have been dumb. Really dumb. He left Iowa because it was apparent that he'd lost that coaching fire. That was all the way back in 1998, for Pete's sake.

Loney looks like a solid decision, however.

wouldn't Hayden Fry be considered "Old Guard"?

Loney has been offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Gophers, and Iowa State. 25 years ago, he was the head coach at Morehead State. He's had an interesting career.

He might be considered more of an old fart at this point. Hell, he probably has clothes older than most of his players. xnodx xnodx xnodx xrotatehx xrotatehx xrotatehx xwhistlex xwhistlex xwhistlex

Just Kidding!!!!

interesting hire. think he stays more than a year? can't imagine he will be too excited once he learns more about the PFL and it's status.

Are you talking about the playoff committee's refusal to give anyone from the PFL a bid? I think he knew that when he accepted the job.

it's not a refusal. It's a lack of quality in the conference. I'm just curious how much he knows about the non-scholarship schools. Back when he would've been around Drake they were a good football school.

At least for this year.

Loney emerged as the Bulldogs' interim head coach, announced Monday at a news conference on the Drake campus. He takes over for Ash, who coached Drake for 18 years before being named coach of Montana State.

I have never heard of the guy, reading about him it sounds like a great hire. Guys that have experience as an NFL coordinator usually go for BCS caliber jobs, dad always said if it sounds too good to be true it probably is, I guess we will have to wait and see if this is too good to be true for Drake. Good luck to him though (except against UNI).
