Burks is a great player and he has a boat load of touchdowns, but I don't see why he's on here.

I think Stick should be first team, and Hodges second team.

Basically, if you want to win big games you go for Stick. If you want to throw the ball over the yard, Hodges is your man

It’s hard to take these teams seriously. Rivals the coaches poll IMHO. xpeacex

So in 14 games Greg Menard has 33 tackles 10 tfl and 8 sacks. Meanwhile, through 11 games Mason Bennett had 42 tackles 15 tfl and 9 sacks. Throw in the fact that UND plays a 3-4 and I don’t see how you can justify Menard over Bennett for AA status.

I wonder how many plays was Menard on the field for versus Bennett. NDSU had no tacklers in top 20 in MVFC .. ISUb had 4 guys in top 19, several other teams had 3 guys in top 19 .. all before NDSU's top tackler. Why ... because they get off the field sooner than anyone else. Not to mention their starters are being pulled many games by 4th qtr. Imagine what that does to individual defender stats when playing for a top defense who gets off the field and a top offense who chews up clock ? I don't think you punish NDSU for less stats in that situation. Bennett might have had the better season, but defensive stats are so misleading for this reason.

NDSU defense is ranked 5th in FCS, but arguably the top defense adjusted for SOS. UND is ranked 51 in total defense, so figure maybe top 30 adjusted for SOS.

Effective winner on a TEAM vs ineffective individual loser

Effective winner on a TEAM vs ineffective individual loser

Ineffective players don’t get double teamed. Bennett was doubled basically all year and still put up those numbers.

No first teamers for EWU on o and d (nice to se Alcobendas as PK). Only two total, and they’re both lineman. I don’t think that’s a bad thing at all.

SOS

Then Darryl Johnson shouldn’t be on the list from NC A&T, his stats aren’t much better and the SOS is 93 compared to 43 for UND.

I thought Malik Wilson from A&T should have been 1st team kick returner

Nailed it! This is a HUGE reason why total tackles/sacks/int/etc is a bull**** meaningless stat.

Another reason is that NDSU rotates 5-6 guys at defensive end. It keeps players fresh and healthy. So Menard gets fewer snaps because 1) he is on a defense that gets off the field and gives ball to a clock eating offense 2) in blowout wins the coaches rest the starters and 3) he shares playing time with other very capable backups. Case in point, one of our backup defensive ends was preseason MVFC. That is what depth will do.

Darryl is deserving of first team honors. I'm sure he was picked largely on his effort vs #6 JSU and fbs, ECU.
