They lost by 1 to the defending national champions and by 1 to an undefeated team. They were the last team left OUT of the D2 playoffs. Once you get past that point, it really could just come down to drawing teams out of a hat. Really the only complaint one can have is that there's another team that sucks more than your team. There's really no valid argument of strength for a team who has already lost 4+ times.

For me, I love this year's version of the playoffs. Valley fans should be rejoicing! There's no forced regionalization and no forced second round rematches! You could get 3 Valley, 3 Big Sky teams, or 3 CAA teams in the final four! Think about a couple years ago where basically every single 2nd round game was a rematch! We don't have that this year! I don't know about you, but to me that's pretty ****ing awesome.

The regionalization or lack there of it, is a pleasant surprise. They could have routed UNI thru SDSU and Montana St thru Weber St. which would have put all the MVFC teams on one side and all the Big Sky teams on the other side.

Kudos to the committee for mixing things up.

D2 is a totally different animal. 4 regions with 6 teams in them. Multiple conferences are in a region. Both Duluth and Mankato were undefeated in conference. Some regions had multiple 3 loss teams in. Sometimes 2 losses will not get you in.

Here’s the thing I noticed voting in the AGS poll this year. Picking the top 10 was relatively simple. Quality was evident. Picking the last 10, especially 20-25 was tough. Every team at that level had huge holes in its resume along with some pluses. Just when I thought I had it figured out, the teams I’d decided should be in this group would disappoint the next week.

Im not alone judging by the revolving door for teams at the lower end the poll. Anyone who says Furman or Monmouth or Indiana State or (insert your favorite team here) got hosed because another sometimes good, sometimes not, but never excellent team got in and your equally unimpressive team didn’t, is just blowing smoke. UIW May get blown out by Montana State. Monmouth probably would have suffered the same fate.

That's the definition of a meltdown. They just managed to do it 4 different times. If you count the near meltdown against UNI, they were outscored 97-15 in the final frame!

I'm not "wailing or gnashing my teeth" over it just expressing my opinion like you. IMO it's just too many especially when you factor in how many teams opt out of the PO's anyway. Putting a 5-7 Lehigh team in last year was my straw breaker. Get rid of the autos and seed 16 teams.
