Here's the Houston Chronicle's visit to the SLC media day. Lots on Sam. Good quote about Bailiff to lead off the article about being seniority in the league now with all the new coaches.

MONTGOMERY - Texas State football coach David Bailiff perhaps best summed up the annual Southland Conference Kickoff Celebration on Wednesday.

"I came here last year, and I was the new guy," Bailiff said. "I come here this year, and I'm third in seniority."

As a second-year head coach, Bailiff is one of the old guard in the conference, which welcomes three first-year head coaches among the seven football-playing schools.

Joining the coaching fraternity this season are Todd Whitten at Sam Houston State, Robert McFarland at Stephen F. Austin and Dennis Roland at Southeastern Louisiana.

Jay Thomas of Nicholls State is in his second year. But Thomas didn't take over the Colonels' program last year until 11 days into camp after Daryl Daye was relieved of his duties.
