Somerset, NJ - The ESPN app is a necessary download for Northeast Conference football fans.
An agreement between the NEC and ESPN has made ESPN3 the exclusive carrier of eight featured gridiron matchups during the 2018 season.
All seven NEC members will appear at least twice over the course of the eight-game slate, which will be available through ESPN's live multi-screen sports network.
For the fourth consecutive year, the schedule will feature a late-season wildcard matchup. Taking title implications into heavy consideration, the conference and ESPN will present one of the following three contests - Wagner at Robert Morris, Duquesne at Central Connecticut or Saint Francis at Sacred Heart -- on the final day of the regular season.
While the final game of the package is to be determined, the opener is set for September 22 in Smithfield, RI. Bryant, which looks to pace the circuit in total offense for the second straight season under James Perry, will welcome Robert Morris and first-year head coach Bernard Clark to newly-renovated Beirne Stadium on Homecoming.
After a two-week hiatus, the schedule resumes with a day-night double header on October 13.
The double dip, which kicks off a stretch of seven consecutive game weeks, begins with a 12:00 pm ET battle in the Big Apple as Wagner will host Saint Francis U. Then, once the sun sets, Duquesne will clash with Robert Morris on Rooney Field in the annual Steel City Showdown at 7:00 pm ET.
For the second week in a row, fans will be treated to a rivalry game. This time, the scene shifts to New Britain, CT where defending NEC champion Central Connecticut will entertain Nutmeg State rival Sacred Heart as part of Homecoming festivities on October 20.
After quarreling with the rival Blue Devils on the road, Sacred Heart comes homes to Fairfield to host Bryant on October 27.
The stretch run begins with an East vs. West battle as Duquesne travels from Pittsburgh to Staten Island, NY to face Wagner. Set to clash on November 3, the Dukes and the Seahawks enter the 2018 season with a nationally-recognized ball carrier on their roster. Duquesne junior AJ Hines has eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark during each of his first two collegiate campaigns, while Ryan Fulse produced the nation’s fourth-highest rushing total in his first year wearing Green & White.
The two most-recent recipients of the NEC’s automatic FCS playoffs bid will clash in Week 11. Defending NEC champion CCSU will make its first trip to Loretto, PA since November 12, 2016, the day that Saint Francis defeated the Blue Devils to secure its first-ever FCS postseason berth.
Paul Dottino, a member of the New York Giants Radio Network, will serve as the lead play-by-play voice for the 16th consecutive season. Former NFL head coach and two-time Super Bowl champion Kevin Gilbride returns to the booth to handle the color commentary for the fourth year in a row. John Schmeelk will provide sideline coverage.
