Is 2003 considered vintage? :o

Yeah, vintage would be the old Steel Tire games back in the late 80's when all there were on the away side were a few metal bleachers. Depending on the weather, you'd quite literally "freeze your A$$ off". I didn't miss an Akron v. YSU game from 1988 to 1993...whether it was at Stambaugh or the Rubber Bowl. Those were some good football games...except for the Zips only winning two games during that period : smh : .
Cheers!

Great pictures Fly, Stambaugh still has that general layout to this day, which is good, I think. xlolx

The Rubber Bowl is a dump. The only team I ever saw Tressel run the score up on was Gerry Faust and his Zips. No love lost there after Faust made some negative comments about YSU football.

One of my first YSU games was with Akron @ YSU in '90 when lightning delayed the game for about an hour.

Let's see some vintage photos of YSU's previous homes before Stambaugh was built in '82. Rayen & Fitch high schools

Technically we don't have a stadium yet. Just a glamorous VIP condo with a pressbox and some metal bleachers on both sides. Beside 93 doesn't quiet qualify as vintage yet:D

Lehigh's old Taylor Stadium. Picture was taken at the 1987 Lehigh-Lafayette game which was the last game played at Taylor. Lehigh won the game. Awesome place to watch a game, unless it was raining. :rotateh: Stadium was pretty big, about 20-21k.

This is the only picture I could find of old Fisher, all I can say is that it was taken after 1973 as the fieldhouse can be seen in the right corner. Before this was built the away side bleachers were larger. Since then an addition had been built forming a L shape around the field. Until this past year with the major renovations Fisher looked pretty much the same as in the picture.

Nice pictures of Dacotah Field. I played a high school game there (about a decade ago) and hated the turf. It literally felt like carpet laid over cement.

It's one of those "If walls could speak" stadium. There is a lot of tradition with that stadium.

Kats played there until 1980s when they moved from the 'old stone stadium' into Bowers Stadium.

SHSU womens' soccer started playing there in 2003. It doesn't meet SLC specifications, so they play OOC there and SLC play at an intramural field...press box came down...

I know it's not FCS but here's a picture of Temple's old Temple Stadium. I would kill for this stadium to still be around, it was demolished in 1997. It had a seating capacity of 34,412 and would be a huge asset to our program and university if it was still standing. It was built to the same specifications as Pitt Stadium the only difference is the one end wasn't finished. Pitt Stadium was finished in 1925, Temple Stadium in 1928.

What part of town was this located in, I suspect Baghdad, oh I mean North Philly. Also when did they stop playing their since I remeber Temple in the vet since the early 80's. Philly really had a glut of football stadiums back in the day with the Vet, Franklin Field, Temple stadium, and the 100k seat JFK that was used pretty much only for Army-Navy and concerts.

The stadium was at Mt. Pleasant & Cheltenham Aves., in the East Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia. I go by there quite often, it's now the site of a huge church. Temple stopped playing there in '75 and the field was actually still there until '02.

I guess Dakotah is being re-turfed in the near future. I was talking to one of the GSMB instructors and they said that it was.

*Probably the only reason that they would know that is that the band has their rehearsals there. Now we have to rehearse at one of the intermural fields until it's done.

I can remember the wooden bleachers in Johnson Hagood Stadium. My dad used to take me to the games as a child and we would pay $2 to sit in the general admission section. We would have to pick the splinters out of our backsides before heading home. I believe the visitor's side had wooden bleachers up through the 90's.

The piece in the center of the Podium Fountain-- "ROCKEFELLER'S ERECTION." Seriously, that is how it is affectionately known. The Podium is by far one of the greatest on-campus areas I have been to on a campus in Fall, Summer, and Late Spring.

Thankfully, the University has done much since the early-90's to spruce up the concrete jungle.

What you can't appreciate is the view of the Ravenel bridge and Charleston from the President's box. I will be in the new club level for the Weber Int. game(not my regular seats). It good to have friends in high places.

What is great about the new boxes is that it is a revenue generator. I hope they will stay sold out.

Nitpicking a bit but it was Conrad Stadium at the time it was built. The funny thing is the stadium hadn't really changed all that much (other that the upperdeck on the home side) until about 5 years ago. Much different now though.

Wish I could find a good vintage picture of UR stadium, but since it has not really changed much in the last 60 years, I imagine a picture of it now would suffice.

Here is the latest image of First Market Stadium, where the Spiders should be playing in 2 years. It might be smaller, 9K seats, and have a track, but it is on campus and should really be a boon for the program.

Henderson Stadium (Alcorn State) basically the visitor's side wasn't very big. We spent most games on the home side.

Here's a better view of Henderson Stadium. And it actually had a very nice field house. It was always full when Southern played there. Here's a better view:

Most are, we always caught bad breaks there. And to top it off, bleachers were horrible and you could easily lose stuff. xlolx

Luckily they moved into a much better stadium, but as a kid that place was great. Running around the hills and playing football on the field after the games. xthumbsupx Alcorn is always a great place to tailgate, plenty of space.
